Valve Want To Innovate Again With Portal 2

In a rather interesting sit down interview with Eurogamer Valve’s Doug Lombardi has revealed a few details about that the company’s plans for the future. For those looking for more amazing value with a possible release of a second version of the Orange Box, then prepare to be disappointed as Lombardi comments “The idea of doing The Orange Box 2 seems kind of contrived. It happened the first time because the three [games] were on a collision course and a bunch of us were sitting around going “this could be a nightmare”, and somebody kicked around the idea of putting them together.

However, while that may sound a bit disappointing, it seems some ideas are already floating around for what a new version of Portal could bring to the table, so that should cheer everyone up. “There’ll be more Portal for sure,” he said. “We wanted to run it as a test to see if it was going to be a hit with gamers.” In even better news it seem Valve are dead set on doing a follow up correctly “We just don’t want to pump out a bunch of new puzzles and say…you know they’re just new maps, it’s the same s*** you did last time. That wouldn’t be us,” he concluded.

Portal is amazing, but I'm not convinced it needs a sequel at all. It works as well as it does because it knows not to out-stay its welcome.

Mabye not a literal Portal 2, but some sort of spiritual sequal. Dunno.
