Uncharted 4 Lead Designer Says Dev Targeting 60FPS for Multiplayer

Developer Naughty Dog’s Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End lead designer Kurt Margenau was recently conducting an interview with Gamespot and he stated that the team is focusing on maintaining a solid and consistent 60fps for the multiplayer while they may be setting a lower fps for the single player since he described the E3 gameplay demo that it has too much going on on-screen.

“If you look at the demo, and just how much is happening on the screen…physics…It’s insane,” Margenau said.

Naughty Dog wants the smoothest experience delivered to the players so just saying the game is running on 60fps then it dips every 5 seconds if too many objects are on-screen isn’t as great as having a game running on, let’s say 30fps but never goes lower. In my opinion, I want the game to play smooth not just be excited that developers are announcing their game will run on 60fps and I think Margenau agrees with me in this point. Targeting 60fps for multi-player will be very ambitious and I hope they can pull it off.

“We want Uncharted to look like the best game we can possibly make,” Margenau said. “Solid frame rate is the most important thing; that it’s consistent. But in multiplayer, we are targeting 60fps still. So we know how it feels on the stick to have [60fps] for a multiplayer game, to have that responsiveness.”

No matter the frame rate is, the game’s resolution is already confirmed to be in 1080p. Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is scheduled to launch in 2016. Tell us what you think about Uncharted 4 and how much are you excited for it in the comment section below.
