UK Sales Chart – Week ending 9th August

Despite being over three months since its release, and being the most expensive ‘game’ in the chart - Wii Fit was only kept off the top spot for a week by Soul Caliber IV. Mario Kart Wii is a non-mover from the third place spot.

1. Wii Fit (Nintendo)
2. Soul Calibur IV (Namco)
3. Mario Kart Wii (Nintendo)
4. Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock (Neversoft)
5. Guitar Hero: On Tour (Vicarious Visions)
6. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games (Sega)
7. Wall•E (Helixe)
8. Lego Indiana Jones: Original Adventures (Traveller’s Tales)
9. Kung Fu Panda (Vicarious Visions)
10. Beijing 2008 (Eurocom Entertainment)
11. Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Sora Ltd.)
12. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (Infinity Ward)
13. Battlefield: Bad Company (Digital Illusions)
14. Grand Theft Auto IV (Rockstar North)
15. Mario Kart DS (Nintendo)
16. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (Konami Digital)
17. New Super Mario Bros. (Nintendo)
18. Top Spin 3 (Pam Development)
19. Race Driver: GRID (Codemasters)
20. Cooking Mama 2 (Cooking Mama Limited)

Wall•E dropped three places, from fourth to seventh, this week. But it’s not enough! I sincerely hope that anyone who is purchasing this game, is only doing so in order to arrange a mass burning rather than traumatising a child by forcing them to play it. Censorship is wrong kids! But there are exceptions to every rule.

No new entries into the chart this week. But Guitar Hero III jumped five places in sales following successful promotions with retailers around the country. And Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games hangs onto sixth place for the 3rd week running. Will the start of the real Olympics give Sega’s waggle-fest a nice sales boost in next week’s chart?

Mario Kart DS continues its slight trend of re-popularity, rising four places from nineteenth to fifteenth.

  1. How can Wii Fit be number one in the charts? I’ve NEVER seen it in stock, anywhere, even on-line.

Perhaps that’s the point, but you’d think that there should be stock to sell somewhere…

  2. You just need to get there earlier. Most stores are getting pretty regular stock - it just flies out as soon as it arrives.
