This week’s chart really bucks the recent trends. Nintendo is no longer on top, and there are a whole three PC games in the top 20! Is this madness? No, this is SEPTEMBER!
Pandemic’s destruct-em-up, Mercenaries 2 satisfied gamers desire for explosions, selling nearly double the amount on 360 than PS3. The PC and PS2 versions only accounted for 7% of the overall sales, perhaps showing that gamers have a preference for the current-gen consoles.
Tiger Woods managed a 9% increase in sales since its release last week, but still had to settle for second place. And Will Wright’s creation-sim Spore was only 1,162 units behind Tiger and accounted for 53% of all the full-priced PC games sold this week.
Three non-EA new releases manage to get into the top 20. Xbox 360 exclusives Viva Pinata and Infinite Undiscovery enter at 16 and 19 respectively. Whilst PC-only prequel S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky managed a respectable 17th place. We shall have to wait and see if it can manage the 2 million sales of previous S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game, Shadow of Chernobyl.
Elsewhere in the chart, good news as sales of Wall•E plummeted from 7th to 18th
