Activision Blizzard have ruled the charts this week, as Call of Duty: World at War enters right at the top of the All Formats chart, becoming the UK’s 3rd fastest-selling videogame of all time (behind GTA IV and San Andreas).
1. Call of Duty: World at War (Treyarch)
2. World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King (Blizzard)
3. Football Manager 2009 (Sports Interactive)
4. Gears of War 2 (Epic Games)
5. FIFA 09 (EA Canada)
6. Guitar Hero: World Tour (Neversoft)
7. Professor Layton and the Curious Village (Level 5)
8. Mario Kart Wii (Nintendo)
9. Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 (Konami Digital)
10. WWE Smackdown Vs Raw 2009 (Yuke’s)
11. Wii Fit (Nintendo)
12. Fallout 3 (Bethesda)
13. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games (Sega)
14. Wii Music (Nintendo)
15. Quantum of Solace (Treyarch)
16. LittleBigPlanet (Media Molecule)
17. Mirror’s Edge (Digital Illusions)
18. Midnight Club: Los Angeles (Rockstar San Diego)
19. Far Cry 2 (Ubisoft Montreal)
20. Fable II (Lionhead Studios)
Following World at War is another Activision Blizzard title at No.2, as the World of Warcraft expansion, Wrath of the Lich King is now the fastest-selling PC title ever – a record that has stood since March 2003 and the release of Championship Manager 4.
Activision Blizzard’s attempt at world domination continues with Guitar Hero: World Tour jumping from No.15 last week to No.6 this week thanks to the launch of the complete band packs. Sales from these three Activision Blizzard games alone accounted for 25% for all games sold this week.
Last years Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare launched in the same week of the year at No.1, but had to wait until Christmas to reach No.1 for a second time. Call of Duty: World at War is this years favourite for Christmas No.1, and the combined launch week sales of the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC versions of this latest wargame instalment have outsold those for Call of Duty 4 by more than 2 to 1. Thus proving that World War II never gets old..
Sega’s Football Manager 2009 debuts at No.3, making it 3 new games in the top 3 as well as one of the most successful weeks for PC gaming in a long time. FM2009 is the fifth of Sega’s Football Manager games and the fastest selling of all of them.
Sales of Microsoft’s Gears of War 2 slip 64%, down from No.1 to No.4, while EA’s FIFA 09 also falls 3 places to No.5.
Nintendo maintains a presence in the Top 10 thanks to Professor Layton and Mario Kart Wii at No.7 and No.8 respectively, although they’re rising in sales, up 9% and 12% respectively.
Nintendo must be disappointed with Wii Music only managing to launch at No.14, and not even managing to beat the sales of Wii Fit, which has been out for almost seven months and costs more.

Professor Layton appears to be out of stock everywhere online.
