UGO have announced they have bought 1UP, commenting that “[u]nlike some of the lumbering, impersonal behemoths out there, 1UP is all about its personalities… It’s an honor to bring that passion into the UGO fold.

Obviously, UGO are trying to paint the whole thing in a shining light, making things look as good as they can for themselves, but with over 30 1UP staff gone due to the shake-up, including many guys that worked on 1UP Yours, The 1UP show, along with many top writers, things are obviously far from hunky-dory.

Garnett Lee posted on his twitter saying “well, it really was a lovely holiday 1UP Yours special I think. By my count that was episode #163 Hey, that’s a prime number. Nice way to go“, effectively confirming 1UP Yours is dead, which means our weekends will now feel much, much longer, and will in no way ever be confirmed again.

The 1Up Show will also also cease to be, with many of the people who worked on the show commenting via various internet outlets that the video podcast is are no more.

EGM, a US-centric print magazine run by much of the same team will also be discontinued as part of the UGO deal, with no more copies getting released following the January 2009 issue.
