In a move that makes us want to listen to Danger Zone as soon as possible Ubisoft have announced Tom Clancy’s HAWX, a new air combat franchise that boasts the Tom Clancy name. Why him again? Well, everything with that name attached seems to sell veritable bucketloads for Ubisoft!
IGN, who seem to have got the exclusive to reveal the game have commented that the title will be set in 2012, and lets gamer’s pilot more than 50 planes in dogfights across the sky. They also comment that the game will boast a unique control method which will aid in the flying of the aircraft called Enhanced Reality System. This will apparently make it safer for players when in a dogfight, and give them loads of help pinpointing threats. However, this mode can be turned of if the player feels up to it to give the game a more realistic feel
In addition, and ultimately more exciting is the fact that the game boasts four-player jump in co-op throughout the main campaign, along with a 16 person multiplayer dogfight mode. If both of these are done right we could see the game been a huge success, and very fun to play.
However, a bit of disappointment comes from the fact that the game is been handled by Ubisoft’s Bucharest studio, the same folks that were behind Blazing Angels, which was a distinctly average game at best according to most critics. Still, there is always the possibility they could make a nice step up from their previous efforts with this new title.
So far Ubi have only released one screenshot of the game, which you can see below. We have to say that it does looks rather impressive.
