Titan Quest Producer Rants On PC Piracy

Okay, a summary is needed. CliffyB originally did not like PC gaming. He now loves them again. This is because Mark Rein told him he was a idiot. Also, lets not forget that the designer of Ultima thinks PC gaming is in “dire straits.” Okay, now that we cleared all that up we can move on to someone else who wants to air their opinion. This time it is Michael Fitch, who worked at the recently closed Iron Lore Entertainment – who is best know for Titan Quest.

In a recent rant he vented his frustrations on the industry, and got more than a bit annoyed at the amount of piracy PC developers have to put up with. “It’s a rough, rough world out there for independent studios who want to make big games, even worse if you’re single-team and don’t have a successful franchise to ride or a wealthy benefactor. Trying to make it on PC product is even tougher,” he comments.

From there he goes onto to comment about people that complained about parts of Titan Quest been buggy. However, he then reveals most people that complained most likely had downloaded a pirated version of the game, and were failing a security check at that point simply due to not buying a legit copy.

So, before the game even comes out, we’ve got people bad-mouthing it because their pirated copies crash, even though a legitimate copy won’t. We took a lot of shit on this, completely undeserved mind you,” he says. “A lot of people are talking about how it crashes right when you come out of the first cave. Yeah, that’s right. There was a security check there.
