THQ Announces New WWE Legends Game

THQ have revealed they will be adding another wrestling game atop of their WWE SmackDown vs. Raw franchise. The new game will go by the name WWE Legends of Wrestlemania. As you could most likely guess with a name like that the game will go on sale in March next year to coincide Wrestlemania 25. If it is successful for the company we could see it becoming an annual release.

THQ comment that the game is currently in development for both the 360 and PS3, although they did not reveal if it will be a brand new game or if it will used the same engine and crap animation of the SmackDown vs. Raw games.

“We have generated significant year-over-year growth in key global territories with WWE-licensed video games, including tremendous success with the WWE SmackDown vs. Raw franchise,” said Peter Matiss, vice president, global brand management, THQ. “The development capabilities afforded by next generation hardware, combined with our established history and deep understanding of fighting video games, allow us to leverage the strength of the WWE brand to further extend our leadership in the fighting video game genre and bring this new property to market.”

“JAKKS Pacific is pleased to introduce a new WWE video game property to the fighting genre,” said Nelo Lucich, senior vice president of interactive, JAKKS Pacific. “The WWE SmackDown vs. Raw franchise has captured a collective audience of WWE fans, game enthusiasts and casual players, and we are confident that WWE Legends of WrestleMania will be poised for great success.”

Hopefully it will be of better quality than recent SmackDown vs. Raw attemps, we really don’t want HBK to lose his smile again.
