THQ announce pointless SpongeBob cooking game for some reason

Joining the ranks of pointlessness, THQ today announced a SpongeBob Squarepants cooking game. The game will be available ‘exclusively’ for Nintendo DS in March 2009, as THQ think cooking games sell well on there, and SpongeBob is the most notable licence they have that they could shoehorn some cooking stuff into to make a quick buck.

The game is titled SpongeBob Squarepants Frantic Fry Cook, and the main reason for it to exist in this world is due to Mr. Krabs signing up to compete in the cooking contest that will determine who will cater Jack Kahuna Laguna’s Big Beach Party. It sounds like X-Factor to us, but SpongeBob’s face can easily show more emotion than Dannii Minogue, and the winner won’t comply butcher a classic song.

The game boasts 25 different cooking activities, which use the Nintendo DS touch screen to cook more than 100 different  recipes. Unlike your normal stirring that cooks normally use, SpongeBob will apparently use skipping, painting, and slingshooting to make his dishes. We hope he gets investigated for this, as no one wants to get food poisoning now, do they?

Tom Kenny, the official voice talent of SpongeBob, is been paid some money to record some unique SpongeBob one-liners for the game.
