Stampers Leave Rare After 25 Years

Both Tim and Chris Stamper have left Rare to “pursue other opportunities.” The Duo founded the company in 1982 under the name Ashby Computer Graphics where they developed a collection of games for the ZX Spectrum and Commodore 64. From there on as the years passed by the company then became a second-party developer for the Nintendo gaming platforms and most recently was acquired by Microsoft.

To fill the void both Mark Betteridge, a veteran of the Twycross studio, and Gregg Mayles have been promoted to studio and creative director after the departure of the Stamper’s.

In a statement Microsoft said “Chris and Tim have helped shape Rare into the world-renowned development studio that is it today and their impact on the videogame industry as a whole is well known.”
