Speaking at the CES panel – the prelude to the all singing all dancing Consumer Electronics Show, which will be kicking off in Las Vegas, Nevada tomorrow (January 8th) – Harmonix’s CEO and co-founder, Alex Rigopulos, has spoken out to say that a third edition of Rock Band should not be expected in 2009.
He revealed that the main reason is due to the developer focusing most of their efforts on the recently announced Beatles game, and the belief it would be detrimental to both to split focus between the two, and try and cram them both into a 2009 release slot.
As a result, Harmonix will not be releasing a Rock Band game for a third consecutive year in 2009, but are pushing to meet the late 2009 release currently set for the Beatles game. Rigopulos previously commented that it would be “a new, full game title production built from the ground up,” and should be a seen as a separate entity to the Rock Band series.
Regretfully, no other mention of the Beatles game was made at the panel, and, as such, is still shrouded in much mystery.
