Resi 5 demo debuts exclusively on 360 on Jan 26th

Xbox 360 owners won’t have to wait until 13th March to get their hands on the latest installment in the Resident Evil franchise, as Capcom have confirmed that there will be a two-level playable demo of Resident Evil 5 available on Xbox Live exclusively for one week from Monday, 26th January.
Here are more details from Capcom Europe:
In the demo, players will have a first glimpse of the fear they will never forget, as “Resident Evil 5” makes daylight just as terrifying as darkness. Additionally, a new exclusive high-definition trailer of the game, shown only at the past Tokyo Game Show in October of 2008, will be made available for download on the Xbox LIVE service on Friday, Jan. 16.
Fans will have the opportunity to experience “Resident Evil 5’s” revolutionary new features early, including two-player co-op with voice chat along with new characters, weapons and environments. The demo is set within two stages from the beginning of the game – Assembly Place and Shanty Town — featuring plenty of co-operative action, shooting, hordes of bloodthirsty infected Majini enemies and a few puzzles to round out the action. The demo has three levels of co-op play: single-player with AI support, two-player split-screen on a single Xbox 360 and two-player across Xbox LIVE.
Xbox 360 gamers will also be first to take on the new enemies in battle, including an army of weapon-wielding infected Majini, the gigantic hooded Majini Executioner and even the dreaded Chainsaw Majini. Players can also choose between the classic “Resident Evil”-style controls or switch to the newer “Action” controls inspired by games like “Gears of War 2” and “Halo 3.”
We’re assuming that after this one week of exclusivity, that the demo will be coming to Playstation 3 owners also.

Ok, I downloaded the demo Friday last week, and a mate and I gave it a run through. What have Capcom done? Why can’t I move whilst aiming? Why does it feel like my character is walking waist deep in custard? The whole experience was horrid! I’ve loved every Resi game since the halcyon days on the PSX/PSOne, and I adored Resi 2, having completed both discs several times!
Resi 5 doesn’t feel like a Resi game. It looks pretty sure, but the game’s just not there, at least for me and my mate. After giving it a couple of run throughs, we both came to the same conclusion…. “Capcom have ruined Resident Evil!!” I had high hopes for this iteration, but based on what the demo has to offer, I’ll be missing this one out. Thanks Capcom.

I think the problem is that Resi 5 has moved completely away from the ’survival horror’ of previous Resident Evil games.
Resi 4 started this change, but still kept many of the survival horror aspects. Resi 5 seems to be a pure action game, and unfortunately it just doesnt cut it when compared to the competition.
The decision to include co-op may have added an extra dimension to the gameplay, but having another person watching your back throughout the whole game ruins any sense of isolation and fear.
I just started playing Dead Space today, and that really shows how next-gen survival horror can be done in my opinion. If only Resi 5 had those controls…

I’ve generally seen Resident Evil as a good series but one that’s not to my taste. Traditionally it was the slightly odd controls, weird door openings and my lack of ammo management skills.
During my two goes on the Resi 5 demo (non co-op) I couldn’t get out of the room at the beginning. Unintuitive controls, old-fashioned interface, annoying action buttons and wiggle icons in the middle of the screen totally out of keeping with the game’s atmosphere, OOT GoW healing and the lack of ammo is more problematic than ever. Worst of all is the perspective which really doesn’t suit trying to fend off zombies from all angles.
Funnily enough I didn’t notice the inability to shoot and run, but I was too busy being squashed repeatedly with an axe. Each time my cpu partner to resurrect me only for the axe squashing to repeat itself.
Won’t be buying this.
On upside the graphics are very good.

Everyone’s avoiding saying one thing.
It’s too bloody hard.
I’ll explain why I didn’t enjoy the demo, its a funny thing but frustration doesn’t have to come with making something hard. RE5 isn’t hard tho its just unforgiving, limited ammo, no where to run, no check points, back to the menu if you die. It doesn’t even reward achievements, you get a head shot on a zombie and it still doesn’t go down. It’s maddly frustrating.
A waste of time.
On the other hand why did Capcom bring out a demo? I personally would have bought it on release without thinking too hard about the purchase. Now im not buying it at all and I bet im not the only one who was put off.
Oh well Capcom, RE4 wasn’t frustrating and it was still tense but this time you’ve taken the piss. But thank you for making me realise I was to waste my money votes…

I read the full version of RE5 will require a 5GB install, not something you’d want to become the norm.

Pheeeww! I’m glad I’m not the only one….. I thought I might have been having a funny turn dissing a Resi Evil game! Thank you all for assuring me that I’m actually (reasonably) normal!
It does make me wonder why Capcom have released the demo so early, I indeed won’t be buying it now, I like to shoot ‘real’ zombies…. roll on the DLC for Left 4 Dead and the release of House Of The Dead: Overkill… I’ll feed my zombie habit there thank you!

actually i thought it was too easy. steve, just run around and you’ll basically never get hurt. you can stand there and shoot at the big guy forever and when he’s finally close enough and starts to swing the thing just run straight through/past him and you don’t get hurt. you can pretty much run through everybody.

Hehe, its just too hard for me, and my partner. I don’t think you can really run away too much, theres not much manovering room.

I quite like the fact that Resi has begun to move away from the ’survival horror’ genre. It makes for a more interesting game, I have played all the other Resi’s and I think that Resi has changed for the better. Dont think that there have been a large enough group of enemies coming for you at once. Dont think that there are a problem with the controls either…adapt or die…

I’m torn between buying this or Streetfighter 4. I loved Resi 4, would rate that in my top ten favourite games, but although the gameplay is almost the same I was quite underwhelmed by the demo. hmmmm….
Anyone know about the availability of arcade sticks in the UK for SF4? The Madcatz sticks have sold out and I cant afford a HoriEX. I don’t even wanna try to play it on the standard controller…
