Dive, dive, dive[/intro] After a great first week of sales is seem the hype has considerably cooled for the high priced PS3 as sales of the unit have taken a steep drop this week. Chart Track figures reveal the unit has been hit with a 82% drop in sales for the week ending April 1st. Last week, the company revealed that the PlayStation 3 had sold 165,000 units in the first two days following the launch, making it the fastest-selling home console in the UK. Chart-Track were not giving out the exact numbers of sales this week but some insane math skills reveal that this weeks sales total is somewhere around the 29k mark... which in all honesty is not as low a number as the percentage seems to indicate. In terms of software sales Resistance: Fall of Man and Motorstorm have also dropped by over 60 per cent but still retain a highly respectable stop on the charts.

To be fair it'd be pretty hard for it to get higher or even stay the same when it was already so high.

And Sony have already sent out second and third shipments to some shops, most of which have more than they had to sell on launch.

This can be taken in a number of ways 1) Sony had one of the biggest opening weeks ever for any device, let alone a console, sustaining those sales would never be conceivable so a steep drop off was inevitable. Stock will continue to shift at a smooth and steady pace now or 2) Everyone who wants a PS3 pretty much has one. They best stop making them! I love the hilarious reports on the openly biased UK:R :D http://ukresistance.co.uk/

The lengthy Argos article was well worth it! We should give Sony some credit to the masses of stock.. it's better than the alternative. If anyone wants a Wii they have to try wiily hard to find one.
