Sony big wig David Reeves has spoke out today unleashing his infinite wisdom on the world. Today’s insight is that if you can walk into a shop on Friday and buy a PlayStation 3 without a pre-order Sony will be going a great job!
“We don’t want secret shoppers to go in there and say, ‘Ah, it’s not out of stock, therefore it’s not selling,’” he told Reuters, who were most likely shocked at the statement. “Indeed, what we’re trying to say is we want to make it available to the normal shopper who goes in there and says, ‘Do you have PlayStation 3?’, and they will say, ‘Yes.’ And the same for the software.”
Reeves also told Reuters that the delay between the console’s Japanese and North American launches was a good thing as it help them right a shipping target one million units of hardware for day one.
“It’s rather like taking a bottle of soda water and we’ve shaken it so hard over the last six months that when we take the cork off, it’s just going to explode,” he explained. “I think that’s a better way of looking at it than to say the delay is disappointing. It’s not – it’s really been beneficial for us. We’re going to get it right.”
We wish we were all as smart as him!

Rofl price drop might come sooner than I thought.
If nooone is buying, Sony don't have a choice.

Yep. No-one can afford a PS3. Stock is so limited that it still being the the shelves is nothing short of dreadful. The Wii is still not easy to find and it's sold a lot more units than PS3, even if you don't count the EU region, and PS3 has been out almost a whole month longer in the states and japan.

Poor Sony, this is not going well. They should reduce the price.

The PS3 is biggest selling console at launch ever in the UK. They didn't sell out because unlike Nintendo and MS, Sony are competent enough to have more than 6 units available at launch.

jjason: Grow up. Sure the PS3 is a fine machine, but that’s not at all what this article says and your comment is the most immature thing I’ve had the misfortune of reading all week.
