Sony announce Playstation Now. It’s coming later

Sony have announced Playstation Now. This will allow PS1, PS2 and PS3 streaming to many devices you have in your home – like tablets and TVs. PS3 titles will be first playable on Playstation 4 and PS3 using the service. No method of streaming to PC was announced.

PS Now will deliver a variety of popular PlayStation 3 game titles first on PlayStation4 and PS3 systems, followed by the PlayStation Vita system,” comments Sony.

“In addition to PlayStation platforms, most 2014 U.S. models of Sony’s BRAVIA TV lineup will support PS Now. Eventually the service will expand beyond PlayStation platforms and Sony devices, allowing users to stream PlayStation games on numerous other Internet-connected devices,” they continue.

An early launch of the service will start late January in the US. A full rollout is expected Summer 2014. No Euro launch is detailed right now. Playstation Now is the new fancy name for the previously touted Gaikai service – a name that everyone needed to spell check in articles.

We are thrilled to deliver entertainment experiences only possible from PlayStation through our new streaming game service,” said Andrew House, Top Man at Sony. “PS Now will allow users to engage in the world of PlayStation, whether they’re existing fans or have never owned a PlayStation platform.

Unlike Nintendo’s Virtual Console service, Playstation Now is a subscription service, where you can pay a set price to have access to a library of games – it is believed you can also access one-off games should you want to pick and choose. No set pricing for either model is known as of yet. It is also unknown if Playstation Now will be part of your current Playstation Plus service – or another separate add on. It is likely to be a separate service though.

Sony are currently letting CES attendees play Beyond: Two Souls, God of War: Ascension, The Last of Us and Puppeteer on PS Vita or Bravia TVs using Playstation Now. Expect reports on this later.
