MS announce August XBLA line-up, and it’s packed
We already told you about Bionic Commando: Rearmed hitting mid-August and Geometry Wars 2 coming in a few days, but it seems Microsoft has much more planned for XBLA over the course of the next few weeks. In fact, they have a very big, highly anticipated release coming every week until the end of August.
The full line-up, which is being marketed under a “Summer of Arcade” label is as follows:
- July 30th - Geometry Wars Retro Evolved 2
- August 6th - Braid
- August 13th - Bionic Commando: Rearmed
- August 20th - Galaga Legions
- August 27th - Castle Crashers

At the risk of sounding negative, the majority, if not all XBLA games over the past twelve months have been shite IMO, bar a few. Chucking any old tat on for download does not a quality service make!
Are any of these worth bothering with? Geometry Wars 2, I’ve still not finished the first due to having a proverbial seizure! Galaga Legions? A remake of the old ‘Space Invaders’ Galaga? Bionic Commando just does nothing for me. Castke Crashers just looks like a poor relation to Pixel Junk Monsters, and I’ve never heard of Braid.
“they have a very big, highly anticipated release coming every week until the end of August.” - I must be in the minority then?

Castle Crash is nothing like PixelJunk Monster, it is more like the old Konami Turtles game (like Turtles in Time), seems exciting to me.
Yes, Galaga is *just* a remake, but it is a nutty remake, throwing about a million things on screen at the one time.

GeoWars2 is just an update, but it is has co-op and 5 other game modes the original did not have. However, if you did not like the original you won’t get to excited for this.
Braid is hard to explain, but seem like it should be a great little Platformer.
I am just stupidly excited for Bionic Commando: Rearmed. I can’t explain why though

Braid looks excellent. Its got a great art style, and the concept of the players movement affecting the way time flows should lead to some mind-bending platforming. More games like this please!

Maybe I’m missing the point with Bionic Commando as I never played it the first time round. I’ve just googled Braid and will admit it looks pretty, however, I think the problem may lie in the fact that I’ve never been a big platformer fan. I just find them to be really frustrating. It’d be nice to see some other genres appearing on XBLA for once to satiate us fickle people!
