A segment on GameTrailers TV has revealed more details on the previously announced Survival Pack, which will be the first piece of Downloadable Content to be released for Valve’s superb Left 4 Dead in spring.
As we thought, the two new Versus mode campaigns will be Dead Air and Death Toll, both of which are currently only playable in singleplayer or co-op. Although it’s a slight disappointment that there are no brand new campaigns, considering the amount of time we’ve spent playing Versus on No Mercy and Blood Harvest this is sure to add countless hours of guilty pleasure to our gaming sessions.
Apparently, the new Survival multiplayer mode will feature “up to four players setting records for the longest time surviving hordes of zombies on over 12 maps”.
We’re predicting that those 12 maps will be chapters from currently existing campaigns, although this is yet to be confirmed. But changing the objective from getting to the next safehouse, to simply staying alive as long as possible will drastically change the needed tactics and dynamic of the game. This will no doubt require that Valve perform much tweaking to the maps to prevent players from hiding in unreachable spots.
The DLC will no doubt be completely free on PC, but we’ll have to keep our fingers crossed that Valve can somehow persuade Microsoft to allow them to bestow this gift at no cost to Xbox Live gamers too.
