It may be cold outside here in the sunny UK, but don’t worry there’ll be plenty to do indoors this weekend – the PS3 and Xbox 360 demos of Mirror’s Edge are hitting PSN and Xbox Live. The PS3 demo is already up and it’s expected that the Xbox 360 demo will arrive tomorrow (31st Oct).
The game is developed by EA Digital Illusions CE (DICE), and set for release this year on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. Epic’s Unreal Engine 3 is being used along with Beast, a new lighting system developed by Illuminate Labs in association with DICE. The latter is used to enable the rather unique visual style of Mirror’s Edge that features the reflection of not just light, but colours too. It does look very shiny!
Mirror’s Edge claims to be a revolutionary take on the First Person Action Adventure genre.
What’s your impression of the demo?

Had a go on this today and it’s quite impressive, both visually and the natural feeling controls.
As a concept it works great, the big question is whether it’ll be able to sustain itself for an entire game. Hopefully there will be enough variety as there’s a lot of potential for it to succeed.

I love this. Like Ben says, hope it has enough variety to keep it FRESH!
