Microsoft to reset Gamerscores of cheaters
Microsoft has revealed today that anyone caught Gamesave Tampering to gain unfair achievements will have their Gamerscore completely wiped out, and knocked all the way back to zero. They will also receive further punishments for the mischievous deeds as well. Those identified as the most serious offenders who have grossly violated the Xbox live terms of use may even be hit will all of the punishments at once. The full list of these steps are:
• Resetting the entire Gamerscore for an account back to zero
• Not letting offenders regain all previously obtained achievements before the reset, but giving them the ability to gain future fair Achievements.
• Cheaters accounts will be clearly labelled for the community to see on xbox.com (example), and also via the personal view of the gamercard as well.

So 2 years in they decide to take action! This kind of thing has been happening since day one! In some respects I think the Gamerscore idea has ruined gaming…. how many people have got huge scores and game lists filled with the likes of Avatar et. al. that throw points at you. I hope the PS3 doesn’t end up copying the idea…. It’s in no means a reflection of your gaming prowess or style, just more futile unncessary competition which detracts from what should be the main focus….. the Game and the fun had whilst playing it! *Rant over*

Seriously Microsoft? Your going to punish people that bought games, and not good enough to beat a certain level downloaded a game save , to bypass that level? Your punishing people for basically trying to get their monies worth? Seriously I downloaded game saves not for achievements I didn’t earn, who cares anyway it’s a number that no one pays attention to. I did it for Burnout Revenge because I only liked the crash boards and didn’t feel like doing the races to unlock all the crash levels, and screw microsoft I spent 60 bucks I deserve a way of doing that. Since they made it harder to do I’ve skipped buying alot of games, and if they punish me for being a huge Microsoft supporter I can assure them I’ll be buying most multiplatform titles for my ps3 now. I’m sure all these people they’ll be pissing off right before the GTA III release they are so worried about wouldn’t be giving MS any more dough.
You need to allow at least a 3rd party device for some level of cheating for casual gamers that suck, no one likes spending 60 bucks and getting stuck.

It’s funny how people are so offended by this. I’m glad MS is taking action. If you don’t care about achievement in the first place, why do you care now what people do with their time.
The only time I can see achievements being a problem is during online play. Instead of focusing on the game, some will undoubtly focus on the achievement and ruin the game for others. It is up to the developers to implement achievement in a smart fashion.

Who defends the Achievement Whore Cheaters?? These cats deserve exactly what they get.
Some guy in an earlier comment actually says that it’s punishing them for getting their money’s worth! That’s retarded!
They are being punished for CHEATING!
Achievement cheaters RUIN the whole Achievement score premise and devalue the hard work that REAL players with REAL achievement scores have put in to accomplish what they have.
I’m glad MS is doing this. Cheaters deserve everything they get.

Brilliant! Now MS need to get rid of the game tamperes! Be interesting to see who on my friends list is a dirty cheater..lol.
As for the earlier comment about whoring points…I agree, I was addicted for a while to my Gamerscore and was playing through some truly awful games to get the points…right or wrong make up your own mind…..but it runied Oblivion for me as I was not just exploring for the fun I was exploring for the points…I decided I would not ruin GTA for myself so I went on cold turkey…and I am a better gamer for it…as for the cheats going over to a PS3…GO..NO DONT LOOK ROUND JUST GO….T@$$£RS

Look, if it was not for cheats, I would not have played and enjoyed GTA: San Andreas. I am one of those who suck on pretty much any game except 007 Goldeneye until a certain level, best at multiplayer though.I AGamerscore does not earn you money for XBOX LIVE Marketplace or any downloads for that matter. I personally only played games to unlock stuff. I could not unlock Everything on 007 without us trading game copy with someone who had it. Mario Kart was best for me. Look, I understand where this could upset people but understand that if a certain thing could not be unlocked without getting an Achievement I defend doing it. If they are only doing it to make a higher Gamercore for themselves which does not give you anything free anyways then I both do not and do defend it. People who think its bad for having a higher number is strange. I think Achievements are unlocking things you do not have without them and guess what people buy the system, its their own stuff quit telling people what they should do with the things they buy, please, you just love controlling people if you do not. Plenty of people would not play games if they could not cheat because the every human mind is not great with games.

I agree with the comment above to a certain degree, Mario 64, Goldeneye 007, Mario Kart on SNES and N64, GTA series, Cruisin USA, WWF/WWE Smackdown games, Twisted Metal, Wrestlemania 200 & WWF No Mercy, and much much more are based on unlocking things(Achievements), we must accept the fact that not everyone kicks butt on every game out there and if they need extra help in getting things then so be it, at least I would feel great if I was able to help someone not as good as me in say Call of Duty 4, get things done. Peace out and hopefully Microsoft will understand that What they are doing, until people earn money off of a higher gamerscore, is just a waste of time.

I only take exception to the Score Whores who had all the publicity like that gormless StripClubDJ bloke… how many times did we have to read some dumb interview about how much he loves gaming and being Number 1 in the world, only to find out he CHEATED!!

Nah, they can’t penalise you for doing a cheat that’s built into the game.
