Aaron Greenberg, Microsoft’s group product manager for Xbox 360, has revealed that all Xbox owners will be forced to choose/create an avatar once they download and boot up the new dash for the first time.
“We’re forcing you to have a visual representation of yourself,” remarks Greenberg when questioned by the press. “But you can make a pretty badass avatar.”
Greenberg went on to stress that those who are not interested in avatars would able to complete the process in under a minute, and then never have to look at their creation ever again if the so wish. There will even be pre-made choice available if you really don’t care.
At TGS Microsoft confirmed that the new look, feel, and completely new feature filled dashboard will go live on November 19.

Sorry but: “ever again if THEY so wish” and shortly there after “choiceS”. {Please delete, I h8 being that guy.}
I hope these choices include prison-grey-stick-figure (mmm…America). Don’t get me wrong avatars are kinda cool, but I want my interface quick, dirty, and non-redundant. Responsive guys – it’s an interface not a game.
As to the “never again” I’m pretty sure I so wish, And where, pray tell, are the ads in this vaunted new interface cause they did not just disappear.
Personal theory; the fall update will leave the ads imprinted even when off-line. I’m taking bets @ 1to10.
I’ll shut up now.
