In a chat with Stephen Totilo of MTV Multiplayer, Peter Molyneux has commented that both he and his team explored mic-control for the dog in Fable II.
“We did test it out,” remarked the Lionhead founder when questioned during GDC. “Whistling to the dog with the microphone was one of the features that we dropped.”
Molyneux went onto say that the reason voice-activation was dropped was because it felt more like a “gimmick” instead of offering true gameplay.
If you still want more Fable II, it was recently revealed that new DLC is just weeks away.

Whistling to call the dog would have felt like a gimmick. Whereas the dog they put in the game felt like…. a gimmick. Whoops!

I honestly thought i’d be given something more worthwhile for choosing to bring back everyone who died.
But no the final decision was pointless as the game had ended.

I wasn’t aware that it was possible to use the Xbox 360 headset as control input in games. It’s a shame it isn’t used more often.
