Nintendo have revealed today that the upcoming Wii version of Mario Strikers will be released on the 25th May across Europe. Following on from that they also revealed that the game will offer online multiplayer via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.
In the game all players will have the ability to charge their shots, making them more likely to score a goal. The captains of each team will also be able to perform a Mega Strike. The Mega Strike is similar to the Super Strike in the Gamecube original Mario Smash Football, but with a few twists. Instead of one big shot, a Mega Strike can split up to five individual shots which all fly toward the goal. To defend against the shots, a player must target and block the balls in a new goal blocking mini-game with the goalie using the Wii Remote. How many goals a player scores will depend on how many shots the opposing player fails to block. Other gameplay elements from Mario Smash Football, such as big hits, dekes, and one-timers will also be used in this game.
There will be a total of 12 captains and 8 sidekicks players can choose from to form a five-player team (captain, three sidekicks, and goalie). Unlike in Mario Smash Football, players will be able to choose more than one kind of sidekick for their team. All characters will have different statistics and abilities.
