Mario Kart Wii Given An EU Launch Date

Today, Nintendo have confirmed that the EU release date for the much anticipated Mario Kart Wii is 11th April. There have not yet been any confirmed release dates for other regions. It comes bundled with the Wii Wheel, and is planned to cost around £38.

In an exciting revelation on Nintendo’s site, Laurent Fischer, Managing Director of Marketing & PR of Nintendo of Europe says, “Mario Kart Wii is an eagerly anticipated launch for Europe and we are confident that all those who have enjoyed playing previous Mario Kart games, in particular the Nintendo DS version will be pleased and looking forward to its arrival. Mario Kart Wii encompasses the core spirit of Mario Kart: an incredibly rich and deep gameplay experience that provides never ending fun. And with the Wii Wheel, every member of the whole family will feel comfortable to join in and experience kart racing regardless of whether they are a karting champion or a complete new beginner. With the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection service also allowing friends and family to compete around the globe, we are confident that Mario Kart fans wont be left disappointed with this installment, exclusively on Wii”.

The game boasts 5 different control methods, 32 tracks, 11 player Wi-Fi races, 10 battle arenas, Motorbikes, and the ability to use your own Mii as a character.

On top of all this, Nintendo also told us that there will be a special Mario Kart Channel released to accompany the game, which will allow players to compare online statistics, and share Ghost Data. Finally, Nintendo also eluded to the fact that there could be worldwide special events hosted through this channel.

Personally, I think it’s about time we got a big game on time. We still don’t have a Brawl release date, but at least this is a start.
