Low Wii stock likely for Christmas 2008

This December will be the third Christmas the Wii has been available to buy, and regretfully Satoru Iwata, Nintendo’s global president and CEO is already warning those interested in picking up the console that it is likely it will be hard to come by once again, particularly in the US. If the prediction comes to pass it will be likely many families will once again be disappionted if they choose to wait until later in the year to buy the console.

We are really intending to increase the shipments to the US, especially compared to last year,” Iwata recently remarked to Forbes. However, I can’t give you a 100 percent commitment [that you'll be able to find a Wii this holiday season]. What I can commit myself to is that Nintendo is going to do its best to supply as many Wii hardware units as possible in order to meet demand there.

^^^Hahaha damn right. You would think they’d learn from last time.

Myself, I am not a Wii fan. Having played on one, I was not impressed. I can see there is certain features that would draw people to it, but it seems so backwards compared to its Xbox and PlayStation rivals.

  4. This is not a constant screw up, it’s Marketing 101.
What more could Nintendo ask for; they control marketing and demand (using questionable tactics).

  5. To be honest, I think that the Wii has enough popularity, buzz and publicity that Nintendo would be harming rather than helping themselves if they artifically reduced their available stock.

i agree with seth above comment, they are hurting themselves with this, therefore the idea of a marketing strategy from nintendo in order to do this on purpose is not accurate, i think they really cannot match the demand, it is overwhelming
