Left 4 Dead 2′s new Scavenge mode revealed

scavenge

Valve have unveiled the fourth game mode that will feature in Left 4 Dead 2, and you might be pleased to hear that it’s more competitive multiplayer. Scavenge mode has been designed for “quick, more frantic gameplay”.

This mode tasks the four survivors to attempt to collect and transport a number of gas canisters from various spots across a confined location, in order to refuel a generator before a two-minute timer expires.

There are a total of sixteen gas cans on each map, and each one that is successfully brought to the generator adds twenty seconds to the clock and earns that team a point. Of course, there will also be four Special Infected players doing their very best to scupper the chances and destroy the teamwork of the survivors.

Apparently two of the new Special Infected really excel in this mode; Spitters can set dropped cans on fire with their acid gob, while the Jockey is superb at leaping on the shoulders of a survivor who thinks he’s home free and steering him away from the goal.

After each team has had three rounds as the survivors, the winner is the team with the most points. Each campaign will have its own Scavenger map, giving a total of at least five shipping with the game on 20th November.  It sounds like this mode should provide an enjoyable middleground between the close-knit teamwork of survival and the competitive griefing of Versus.
