Some guy who works for Game Informer…maybe some guy who is just like you and I – although maybe he has a better haircut – has put together a piece on Mortal Kombat Armageddon for Wii. Now even though the Wii version of MK is intresting that is not the part of the article we care about. The part that caught our attention was about MKVIII – that would be Mortal Kombat 8 for all you non Roman readers. In the article the guy, who for the purpose of this news piece we shall call Billy interviewed Ed Boon who kindly revealed a few intresting tidbits about MK8 and how everything we thought we knew about Mortal Kombat is going to change.
Firstly he revealed that the game will use the much vaunted Unreal Engine 3… he boasted that this will be a big move for the series as it will allow for a grittier more realistic look to the game than ever before. “To me, when I saw Gears of War, I was like, holy shit! That’s the look that we’ve been talking about. Visually, that’s what we want to do” Boon proclaimed.
He went on to say that they are now trying to stay away from all bright colors as they really want to give the game a darker tone than before. Following on from that he talked a bit about the gameplay saying that it would be – once again – completely different from other games in the series. He said it would have a very different control scheme than before and the three fighting styles idea from recent games would also be abandoned. All in all the big point he tried to get across in the interview was that almost everything from previous games will be thrown out and when the game finally hits shelves it will be something truly different. Oh and one final thing… that date when the game finally does hit shelves is scheduled to be November 2008 so we have a really, really long two year wait on our hands.
