GTA IV sells 926,000 in first five days

Chart-Track has revealed that in the first full week since launch GTA IV has sold a staggering 926,000 units when you combine the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions. 514,000 copies were sold for Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and 413,000 copies were sold for Sony’s PlayStation 3 - that a 55 per cent to 45 per cent share percentage fans!

This easily beats Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas sold 677,000 units during its first week of sales, although it should be noted that was a PS2 exclusive at the time.

Could it be on for 1,000,000 within a week? I hope so, it’d be nice to see a game selling such vast amounts.

  2. Thats a hughe hit for Sony, they had high hopes for this release in order to try to sell high amounts of PS3, but if GT4 VI cannot do it, I think is all lost for sony, 55% vs 45% pretty damn close if you ask me.

I feel bad for Sony as they’ll probably loose a lot of sales due to people like me. I own both consoles but bought GTA IV for X360 simply because the majority of my mates don’t own PS3s, only X360… my multiplayer experience would’ve been dire without being able to play with them! Wonder how many more people have done this? If it weren’t for the multiplayer, I’d have bought the Playstation version just like the previous GTAs.

Well I bought the GTA IV and PS3 bundle, so this game pretty much sold it to me. I hope others did the same as I did cause I think after their huge losses form the PS3 development and manufacturing costs, they need a bit of a boost. This should be the game to do it.
