Over on MTV’s Multiplayer Blog Stephen Totilo has commented that even though GTA IV has loads of multiplayer modes they all must be played over Xbox Live or the PlayStation Network as the game has no single console or LAN based multiplayer options.
He writes that many have “asked if the game supported multi-system LAN play, or if it had any single-screen multiplayer gameplay that two friends could play with one system and one TV. The answer to each of those questions is “No.” I’ve checked and double-checked this with Rockstar Games.”
“GTA IV multiplayer is all online or bust” are his last words on the matter

I hope GTA doesnt feel realy restricting compared to other sand box type games nowadays. Looking at that picture im thinking “god i cant wait to stand on the statue of libertys head”. Then i realise the only way that will happen is 3/4 of the way through the game when im given the GIFT OF FLIGHT, i will be able to precision skydive onto it. Rather than hopping around as some super freak.
I mean obviously thats GTA’s charm, and ill gladly sacrifice it for tense shoot outs, and convincing car chases. But still.. with a skyline like New York, i dont want to be stuck looking up at skyscrapers wishing i could ramp a bike off it, with no means to.
