Variety has revealed that Gore Verbinski has been signed to direct the film version of Bioshock. Verbinski recently directed all three of Pirates of the Caribbean films. Those films went then on to get eleven Oscar nominations between them, and ended up winning one.

I think the whole utopia-gone-wrong story that’s cleverly unveiled to players is just brimming with cinematic potential,” said Verbinski. “Of all the games I’ve played, this is one that I felt has a really strong narrative.

It was previously rumoured that the film was going to adopt the same green screen techniques seen in the likes of 300, but that remains to be confirmed as pre-production of the film has not even begun as of it. However, Verbinski has said he will start pre-production once all details on the script is finished and approved by all involved.

    What? No Uwe Boll?! ;)

I reckon this’ll make a quality film! I’m eager to see what he can do with the story and setting!
