Fighter cut from UFC game for having long hair

Last Friday saw the release of the first UFC video game for several years, and whilst fans of MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) will be overjoyed, some may be saddened by the ommission of popular up-and-coming lightweight fighter Clay ‘The Carpenter’ Guida.

According to the latest issue of Fight! magazine (an essential read for any fan of knee-to-face action), Guida was originally slated to be part of the game’s roster, but had to be cut due to clipping issues caused by his trademark long hair. The resulting issues with the title’s excellent collision detection rendered his character nearly unplayable.

Apparently THQ even offered to pay Guida to get a haircut so that he could still be included in the game’s lineup, but he refused. Guida is something of a rising star in UFC, renowned for his relentless pressure and unending stamina. His current record is 25 Wins -9 Losses.

The same Fight! article also mentions that Southpaw stances were also excluded from the game due to the same clipping issues. Thus, lefty fighters end up sparring using a traditional right-handed stance in the game.

Despite these minor issues, UFC Undisputed has been critically and commercially successful. In fact, it was the best-selling game in the UK last week. Look out for our positive review shortly.
