Ed Boon shocked at bad Mortal Kombat vs. DC reaction
Speaking to Kotaku Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon has admitted he expected a somewhat sceptical reaction to Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe. However, he said he was blown away with the reaction most people had after it was initially revealed.
“If you’re asking me to put a number on it, from one to ten, I’d have thought [the reaction to MK vs. DCU's announcement] would have been a four,” said Boon. “Turns out it was more like a nine.”
Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe will boast famous Mortal Kombat characters and personas from the DC Comic Universe battling it out. However, unlike every other MK games in the past this will be the first in the franchise that will not bear a “M” Rating in the US. Instead Midway are looking for a “T” rating, which is the equivalent of a 12 in Europe.

Summary:
Ed knows MK fans are nuts, but did not think they were *that* nuts

I see releases like this as nothing more than trying to get twice the money by relying on the fact two sets of fans will buy the game.
The videogame equivalent of Alien vs Predator.

Isn’t the title of this article stating the opposite of what the article says? Misleading…

Nah. It’s right, but I think Boon himself worded it badly. Basically, he expected a slightly negative reaction to the silly crossover game he’s making. Instead, the Mortal Kombat fanboys kicked off and were extremely unhappy that their game would be toned down and that they would be forced to have ludicrous match-ups such as Johnny Cage vs. Superman.

Well some cross-over games work well. The AvP FPS games on pc were outstanding and are still brilliant to play today. I havn’t come across a bad collab fighter. I hate MK with a passion, always have. But I have played each one with hope haha!
Mabye this one MIGHT be different. Let’s see

Alien vs. Predator works brilliantly because those two creations can exist and interact together in a consistent and logical universe that makes some kind of sense. (I highly recommend the excellent AvP novels and comics.)
I dont feel the DC characters fit into the Mortal Kombat world in this way. Same with the Star Wars cameos in Soul Caliber. Some crossovers just feel like horrible, cheap marketing ploys and the rules of one universe have to be compromised to incorporate the other.

Fighting games won’t be their best until it becomes ‘Super EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER OUT OF EVERYTHING Fighter’. With DLC of new fighters to coincide with movie releases ect.
Imagine Yoda V Batman or Neo V Chuck Norris.

They shuld just update Fighters Megamix, that was class.
I’ve always hated MK games with a vengeance. Glad this one doesn’t dissappoint

Well i think it worked marvelous with marvel vs capcom, why not this one?, i know the mortal kombat games lost their appeal in the latest games, but mates , lets give this one the benefit of the doubt.

True Manuel. But for like me and Lloytron, we bash MK every chance we get because we don’t like it at all. Even though I don’t like them, I still play them so I can give my reasons why they suck balls personally.
I will be using DC all the way with this cross-up of characters.

From what ive seen MK vs DC looks very promising, but to say that this is a real MK game is something else. I think that this is a subtle marketing ploy to get the current Gen of gamers into MK by bringing in the DC universe and it cant hurt that the Dark Knight is out in the cinemas at the moment.
I think I read a comment from Boon saying that the next MK game will go back to ripping limbs of and have that real MK feel. Saying that I would have loved to have done some fatalities on Superman.
