EA have revealed that Tiberium, the tactical first-person shooter video game title set in the Command & Conquer universe has been axed. It is now unlikely the game will ever get released, unless it gets taken up by a different team at the company. The game was being developed at EA Los Angeles over the course of the last year.
Kotaku goes onto report that multiple members of the team that worked on the game have now been released from EA. However, EA seem willing to try and give these affected people other opportunities within the industry.
“EA has suspended work on Tiberium effective immediately,” comments Mariam Sughayer, EA spokesperson. “The game was not on track to meet the high quality standards set by the team and by the EA Games Label. A lower quality game is not in the best interest of the consumers and would not succeed in this market. This decision will result in some individuals being released. However, EA will make every effort to place talented people on other projects. Eligible employees will receive severance and outplacement support.”

The video that emerged some time ago wasn’t very inspiring, even for a fan of the series.
As with C&C Renegade the potential is there for an amazing FPS but they haven’t got it right yet.

Well, better to cancel it now rather than spend years of manpower and millions of dollars to release a sub-standard title.
EA games are getting better and better, and hopefully the money saved from not making this game will be funneled into more original projects like Mirror’s Edge and Dead Space
