EA confirm 10 vs 10 online play for Fifa 09
In a chat with Gamesradar EA have revealed they will be including the much rumoured 10v10 online play modes on the Xbox 360 and PS3 versiona of Fifa 09. “We’ve managed to get 10 v 10 this year online through strength of will and technological nous,” comments a boastful David Rutter, Line Producer on both versions of the game.
He goes on to say that did not opt to make 11 vs 11 playable yet as they could not make the control system for controlling goalkeepers fun. “[W]e want to make sure it’s good enough before putting it in because the last thing you want to do is say “tada - 11 v 11″… and the goal keepers are rubbish,” he comments.
We have a weird feeling this is not going to work out too well though, and the football will be reminiscent of a match that took place on a pre-teen school playground with 20 players chasing a ball around a pitch.

I can foresee 20 laggy people chasing that ball.
What I really want is a curl/swerve facility so you can do Olympic Soccer style banana shots.
Plus.. 60FPS please EA. The past few attempts have juddered along during cut-scenes.

I can forsee that finding and connecting to 19 other players at the same time, who are happy to play the same game, will be a pipe dream.

Unless they take some inspiration from Nintendo and have a standard rule set (set match length/keeper difficulty, weather/stadium randomizer) and then make the players vote on the teams they use, it could have far fewer complications.
