Daily Mail finds out Madworld is coming to Wii

We like it when the Daily Mail writes about games, it brings a smile to our face. Today is no different, as it seems the publication has found out that Madworld exists, and reports that the existence of the game “shocked anti-violence pressure groups.”

To inform us about this they have ran with the headline “Parents horrified as most violent video game ever to launch on ‘family friendly’ Wii.” They comment that the release of the game will “dramatically transform Wii’s image” as it “revolves around the themes of brutality and exhilaration.”

Madworld, developed by PlatinumGames, which is set to be released in 2009, see players control Jack, a rather friendly bloke with a chainsaw for an arm, as he competes in a violent TV show. The game is controlled using the Nunchuk and gesturing the Wii Remote. A recent trailer for the game shows Jack impaling an enemy’s head with a caution sign, which hints at the OTT violence the game will contain.

The Daily Mail went on to ask John Beyer, director of Mediawatch-uk, for his opinion on the game. “This game sounds very unsavoury. I hope the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) will view this with concern and decide it should not be granted a classification,” he comments

“Without that it cannot be marketed in Britain. What the rest of world does is up to them. We need to ensure that modern and civilized values take priority rather than killing and maiming people. It seems a shame that the game’s manufacturer have decided to exclusively release this game on the Wii. I believe it will spoil the family fun image of the Wii.”

The Daily Mail end their news piece by saying “‘The game is not made by Nintendo but by Sega.” We are not sure why they tell us that though.
