Codemasters buy Sega Racing Studio

Although Codies already boast two racing game teams under their corporate umbrella, one that recently developed DiRT, and another that are currently developing GRiD they have announced they’ve secured a deal to buy Sega’s UK Racing Studio, in effect saving the studio from closure after Sega threatened to shut them down. This deal adds yet another team that have experience in racers to their team of developers. The studio will of obviously undergo a name change once the deal is complete.

It is unknown what games the team will now develop for the company, but judging by previous efforts by Codemasters it should have four letters in it, and a weird combination of lower case a capital letters too.

In seizing this opportunity, we have created additional resources to escalate our plans in the racing segment,” comments Rod Cousens, CEO of Codemasters. “We hope to welcome more than 40 people to the company and we have enjoyed the full co-operation of our friends at Sega in making this happen. It is good business for Codemasters, an exciting prospect and there will be more to come as we are not content to stand still.
