Codemasters has revealed they’ve got access to the coveted F1 licence, and will use it to develop a title based on the 2009 F1 season. The game will be released on 360 and PS3 as well as unspecified handhelds and PC. They boast their game will be the first to have Lewis Hamilton make an apparence in it.
“Formula One is ambitious in expanding its reach with more circuits planned beyond recent additions in the Middle East and China. It is also ambitious in expanding its reach via technology” commets Rod Cousens, chief executive officers of Codemasters,
“The digital communities that computer and video gaming creates will play a key role in further growing the F1 audience and connecting them globally. As a world-leading creator of driving games, this alliance with F1 is the jewel in Codemasters’ racing crown and creates an undisputed segment champion.”
Chris Denning, chairman of Codemasters, added: “Codemasters’ success and recent innovations in the racing game space makes the company more than appropriately tuned for the challenge. The combination of F1’s new momentum of expansion and Codemasters’ contemporary technology and past experience is the breaking of a new dawn for the sport, on the track and on the HD game screen.”
Work on the game has apparently already begun at with 350 people already working hard on the project. An updated version of the EGO Engine from Colin McRae: DIRT and the upcoming Race Driver: GRID will used to build the game.

I can’t imagine any F1 racing game getting any better than Formula 1 for the ps3. I’m not into racing games and i put in my time with that game. it was great.

I hope PSP too, and I presume it will, because F1 gmaes have been on it before and are in need of an update. I have a PS3 too anyway so I ain’t that worried. I’m wondering what it will be called considering the other Codemasters racing titles are called GRID and DIRT…

FINALLY!!!
I would love to see some extra features like. Track designer, Helmet designer, Team management, Car colour designer, Career mode, and the stuff they had on the F1 06 game!
I like codemasters but on TOCA race driver 3 i found the driving speed a bit naff and too quick. DTM around Istanbul i got round the same time a real F1 car would which is crazy!

THEY SHOULD LOOK AT GEOFF CRAMMONDS GRAND PRIX 4, THIS IS THE BEST F1 GAME EVER.

I hope they do put all those things in with the weather, safety cars etc…I also hope that they put in a formation lap where I can completely control the car and not just run in 4th gear and never have to turn. But two things that I would really love would be 1. Proper radio talk where the crew give you up to date information just like in the real world like when you pit, who exactly you are racing against, when they might pit. That stuff is real exciting. And 2. I hope they bring in BOB VARSHA, DAVID HOBBES, STEVE MATCHETT, AND PETER WINDSOR FOR THE COMMENTARY AND PLAY BY PLAY. Another thing is that since the series is based out of Europe, and like most other games now there are names imputed so the computer can talk to you or about you and use your real name, that more names are put in. My name is Roberto and I can never find my name. It is one of the most popular names in Europe let alone other parts of the world and i can never find it. I know i’m going long here but i feel i need to. Something else is that the last game for the PS3 did the old cars and one old track. That absolutely needs to be expanded on. More cars, more tracks, and even old school drivers from very era. People like that in games where you can blend the old school with the new school. In order for this game not to be just another on the shelf, CODEMASTERS really need to GO DEEP in every facet and give this game and this franchise a life of it’s own

HAMILTON TO WIN CHAMPIONSHIT

I think your car shouldn’t disappear when you have crashed the safety car should come out. When going into the pit you actually drive the car and you have to pull up into your box and at the end of the race as well. more aggressive drivers and if you do the pit wrong you can go away with fuel hose attatched and you have to pull over and let mercanics take it off.
we all hate massa
October 14th, 2008
i hope that you can get like drive through penalties and 25 second penalties instead of those tacky 6 second penalties also when you crash your car into another car then it will leave scratches and bits of the car fall of

All the suggestions ive been reading are immense ideas and to be honest i think codemasters are going to be looking at these ideas and comments and putting them all in….for me i just cannot wait to play an f1 game again…not f1 97 (Altho ps1 games are fun ha)
I want to race as Kubica lol
But yeah i agree with everyones ideas…real life stuff…like one mess up in the pit and you go down the pit lane with the fuel pump still attatched….blooody cant wait..whens it due out?

Safety car but a invisble wall so you can not crash into it.
the weather can rain half way through a race.
commentator better speaking dont just talk about the top 8
talk about attackingat the back.
team radio more realistic talk about weather tell if the other drivers
are heavily fueled than you.
i know this is so harrd because only so much can go on one disc
people dont understand that
but i know you can pull all this off and more
plz talk to me.
becuase i wanted to do work experiance with you but i cant.

i have ps3 and been playing the f1 game since it came out.”constint”
it would be ace if the following was added to the 09 game…
online features,
1.before each race starts you get 15 mins or whatever to set up your car to suit each different track like in career mode but online.
2.varable weather with like a percentage givin so the gamer can choose their tire before and during a race.
3.be able to talk to other gamers during practice seasons or just the option.
4. be able to customise your own f1 car / team.
other than that the 07 game is spot on , its going to be hard to compete with that.

Ithink all of the ideas should be put in plac, is it coming out on ps2 aswell do i think that it should also have like a car show mode were you can do donuts and burnouts and stuff. you should also be able to make the tyres explode more frequently and make your own camera angle lol.

Can’t wait for this to be realeased – i hope it isnt too late in the season!
They have to remove those stupid rev limiter penalties and bring in drive-throughs and stop/goes, and also bring the safety car in to the game and to be able to drive behind it yourself , keeping tires warm etc.

I had an old Indy car game on an (equally as old) Amiga 500. The game had a realistic safety car scenario, or yellow flag scenario anyway, that was quite difficult because you were controlling your car and if you did pass somebody you were disqualified. It’s real life stuff, it was cool, and I haven’t seen it replicated since…

great to hear codemasters got rights to the game…..it would be great if there was a proper safety car, create your own track mode and the old top view from f1 95 and f1 97. f1 06 was good but defo could be better especially the in the rain its not realistic…..cant wait do….

I Hope they create the same carrer layout as in f1 06, where you have to compete in tests drives to earn a race or test driver seat and progress through the formula 1 hirarchy. pehaps some cool unlocks like ledgendary cars etc to use in arcade races with friends.
cant wait for the release, anyone know a date ?

April 4th, 2009
I agree ith the safety car thing, they should definatly put that in, and you should be able to drive all by yourself behind it. Also, get rid of those stupid rev limiter penalties, if your gonna give a penalty do a drive through or stop and go
But have it so if someone cuts a corner and gains a place, if they give that place back by the next corner, nothing happens (that’s the way it happens in real f1) Also, a career mode that lasts more than 5 seasons would be great,a nd let the world championship mode be more than one season lol. And, most importantly, don’t make the Kers system look stupid like using NOS on need for speed, dont add any stupid effect like blur around your car and don’t make it go slow motion or any of that crap lol. That would seriously ruin the game lol. Keep it like a sim
Oh, and add more difficulty levels, not just easy, medium or hard, cause F1 is very close, you should be abe to choose a percentage difficulty so you can set it for your personal skill level, so you can chalenge yourself, but not end up doing rubbish lol.
I went on a bit there but yea…it’l be a great game if you do what i said
LOL

I’m a big F1 fan, gamer, and 125 karter. If this game isn’t a realistic simulation i’ll get sick. Gran Turismo was great because it had a huge amount of detail, big differences between each individual car, variation in set up and the designers gave the game a very cool arcade like menu and theme. If they could do something similar with a new F1 game then people who like sim games wouldn’t feel cheated because they know the level of detail which is there, and the arcade theme would not alienate people who are used to arcade games.
Any new F1 game being made should have its own game engine made before the game is developed. I don’t think the gameplay of Project Gotham or G.Turismo would be capable of keeping up with the amount of bumps, and the changing car/race conditions that an F1 sim should focus on. Over 1 billion at least catch a glimpse of each F1 race, so i think i have a case for the game being developed with its own engine.
I think that they should forget about adding features like gridwalks, podium celebrations, driver careers. The new features that people seem to want them to add is realistic safety cars and real life penalties. This would be nice but i think they should focus on the actual driving more first.
As someone’s already mentioned, tyre choice, tyre condition, realistic degradation, pressures are things which need to be included. The state of tyres is very important for a sim. The tyres need to have a bigger effect on the handling of the cars in the game.
Any racing game that i’ve played seem to make it far too easy to drive in wet weather conditions. I think this is because there isn’t accurate T.C. in any single seater racing game. Under wet conditions the games just make the cars lock up and spin every now and then. Understanding the Traction Control should be the main thing that makes someone good at an F1 sim.
I’m starting to bore myself now
Basically:Simulation – Good
Realistic Tyres – Good
” ” Traction Control – Good
Arcade – Bad

that sucks wat don says it should have f1 tv but is it f1 09,08,07 it should have the option if in carrear or normal race to pick seasons 07,08,09 and unlock legends like ayrton senna and still have the features of f1 06 and more they should in the rain you can choose how deep u want it and make ur own team and drivers and have realistic handiling
and when u pit u should be able to control it and real saftey cars!track desighner would be brill and you should asked questions after the race and answer diffrent replys on performence to how u prepare
kimi raikkonen rulz!
April 6th, 2009
it should let u make ur own team and drivers
hamilton sucks

from reading all comments here, it seems to me that the whole safety car issue is getting a lot of attention, and i would agree, they need to bring the bsafety car into it and the player has to be able to control this, i hope they do a proper job of it because its being a long wait since the last f1 in 06……one more thing is please codemasters, please get the wet weather driving right. the last f1 game to get it right was f197 believe it or not, i remember f1 games since then where it would be bucketing rain down and yet ya still could do times that where as quick as those in the dry.

ITHINK THE GAME SHOULD HAVE
CAREER MODE
MANAGER MODE
TRANSFER DRIVERS
MAKE DRIVERS
MAKE CARS
MAKE TRACKS
BUILD YOUR OWN CAR
MORE REALISTIC CRASHES
SHOULDNT BE ABLE TO LAP EVERYONE A MILLION TIMES
ONLINE MODE
UNLOCK LEGENDARY CARS AND DRIVERS LIKE SCHUMACHER
FOR CAREER MODE U SHOULD START YEARS AGO LIKE 05
A PROPER SAFETY CAR
RAIN MORE REALISTIC
THE WEATHER SHOULD CHANGE THROUGHOUT THE GP RACE

This game should have more detail, such as:
A safty car,
Fingers hitting the gear shift,
Weather changes during the race,
You should be able to create your own F1 team and drivers.
Can someone tell me the exact date of when the game will officaly launch! THX

One more thing, you should be able to create your own track(as mentioned by Gabriel Clerkin and hiii) LOL

April 9th, 2009
IN Formula one 09 i think they should include:
make your own tracks, drivers, teams, car
adapt car and team
driver transfers
drivers should retire at a certain age and test drivers should make it big
unlimited career – if possible
more car setup choises
safety car and better crashes.
forget the penalty rule- drive thru if bad enough
online
be bale to unlock legends
there is more i can think of, just alot has already been said

The only thing i think we chould be able to customise, to do with the apearance of the cars and teams anyway, is our helmets. no tracks, no teams, no car liveries.
I wouldnt want to make up my own team, otherwise there’s no point to having it as the formula 1 game.
the game should be as close to formula 1 is as possible, that means penalties, tracks (no tire barriers) and so on. that way the game will be just like as we see on tv and that will make it more realistic.
im all for the idea of tuning the car for different tracks though, formula 1 C.E did quite a good job of making the complicated bits easy to understand.
im sure codemasters will make an awsome game aswell, they havnt let me down with GRID or DIRT so far!

Things that should be in F1 09:
Safety car
multiplayer career or world championship
proper stop and go penalty not just putting on the speed limiter
Create your own team, track and helmet
other driver transfers and drivers coming up from lower levels e.g GP2 and A1
press conferences after races where you can decide the answers to each question also vary the questions, not just one set of them
Legends to unlock, e.g. Ayrton Senna and Schumi
AI drivers should crash, overtake and defend
More weather changes in the middle of races, be able to feel the difference
manual lap of honour after the race where you can make signals and the same on the podium
Career should have a choice of beginning from 2000 or 2009
headset used to radio team
sorry this is really long but with all of these things the game will be incredible

one more thing that i forgot to mention is that i hope that for the starts there is a rev limiter management system where if you under rev you can stall or over rev ya can burn the clutch out…..f199 is the last game where there was a clutch system where u had to hold in the r2 and l2 buttons otherwise u would jump the start……. i must say that in the current ps3 f1 game it is poor for the starts as if ya start last on the grid u can still easily be 8 or 9th in turn 1 even on hard…….make the start more relistic please!!!

A new generation of Formula One video games featuring all the drivers, teams and circuits from the 2009 FIA Formula One World Championship was announced on Friday by Codemasters, the developer and publisher of award-winning racing video games, under its exclusive worldwide agreement with Formula One Administration Limited.
The first title in the series, F1 2009™, will debut on Wii™ and PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) system this autumn. F1 2009 will deliver an authentic and accessible recreation of the current Formula One season, including, for the first time in a Formula One title, the stunning Singapore night race. A trailer video is now live at http://www.formula1-game.com, Codemasters’ new online destination for the game.
Extending the Formula One experience to further gaming formats, it was also announced that F1 2010™ is in development at Codemasters Studios and coming mid 2010 for the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system, Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft® and Games For Windows®. F1 2010 is being created using Codemasters’ EGO™ Engine technology, which most recently powered the BAFTA award-winning Race Driver: GRID™.
Talking about the partnership with Codemasters, Bernie Ecclestone, CEO Formula One Management Limited, commented: “Codemasters has a great heritage when it comes to racing games and their reputation is second to none. We’re working very closely together on the upcoming Formula One titles and are very impressed with what we have seen.”
Rod Cousens, CEO, Codemasters, said: “Formula One is the pinnacle of motorsport. For many, it embraces a lifestyle and its audience is far reaching and growing. We are producing a series of games that will deliver the passion, glamour and exhilaration that fans deserve and we know how to do that. F1 2009 is the start of something very special for Codemasters and will set the standard for the high definition versions that will follow in mid 2010.”
“Our studios are working extremely closely with Formula One Management Limited and the teams to produce the most authentic and thrilling experience possible. We are delighted with the level of support and access afforded to us so far, enabling us to get as close to the sport as possible. It is this level of support, understanding and working in partnership that enables to deliver superb Formula One games for whichever platform players choose to race.”
In addition to bringing Formula One to Wii for the first time, F1 2009 marks Lewis Hamilton’s debut in a videogame and will enable players to take to the wheel of his McLaren MP4-24 and battle to retain his drivers’ championship crown. The new 2009 season promises to be one of the most exciting and closely fought, thanks to new regulations on aerodynamics, slick tyres and the introduction of the KERS boost system, which is designed to aid overtaking. The rule changes, including KERS, will be reflected in F1 2009 to deliver a truly enthralling racing experience.
“I know Codemasters is going to make a great Formula One game and I’m really looking forward to racing my virtual Red Bull RB5 around my favourite tracks such as Spa and Monaco,” said Chinese Grand Prix winner, Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel.
“Formula One computer games and circuit simulations can be invaluable for racing drivers so it’s great news that our fans will also be able to experience the BGP 001 through this game,” added championship leader, Brawn GP’s Jenson Button.
Both the Wii and PSP editions of F1 2009 have been exclusively designed to deliver the ultimate racing package for each individual format and its audience. Setting new standards for immersion and authenticity on Wii, F1 2009 will offer a variety of race modes, including a full Formula One season and individual arcade-style challenges. Customisable driver aids will be offered to individual players, so both novice and expert drivers will be able to keep their car on track. In the game’s multiplayer mode, driver aids will enable friends and families of different abilities to play together in wheel-to-wheel split screen co-operative and competitive multiplayer races.
The PSP edition of F1 2009 will have players racing against each other wirelessly in addition to engaging and challenging single player modes exclusively tuned for portable play, including competing in full championships.
As Formula One enters its most exciting season yet, F1 2009 will take Wii and PSP players as close as possible to racing in the world’s most spectacular motorsport when it launches this autumn; F1 2010 will follow for PLAYSTATION®3, Xbox 360 and Games For Windows in 2010. For the trailer video, race over to http://www.formula1-game.com.

some of these coments are unrealistic why change wat is already king of any racing game just make the setup of cars customisable like in the 2006 game and the handling, damage and AI realistic also it will have to have up to date drivers because some have dropped out this season

hey im a another one of all of those f1 fans out there and i love racing games wat i didnt like in formula 1 championship edition is when you where testing out to drive for wichever team you signed with the view wsnt clear you couldnt see infront of you because it was in the morning in the races you could see good so plz in f1 2009 i want to atleast see where im going and not have sun ryt in your face:P and failing the tests and when you retire i dont want the car to disapear the safty men should check on you if your ok and then the car should get towed and carrere mode was fun codemasters should add that in the game and one more thing kers should be in it not exagerated i dont want the screen to get blury and all that fake stuff!!! ok now final thing and now im serious lol:P somthing i would like codemasters to do in f1 2009 is when your driving watever i want the car to bounce because of the bumps and all that it would make teh game more realistic
