Castlevania To Break XBLA Size Limit

Gamespot, after having a quick chat with Microsoft’s group manager for Xbox Live Arcade, Greg Canessa have reported that the upcoming Castlevania: Symphony of the Night on XBLA will break the 50MB barrier once set as the max by the company. The 50MB barrier has remained unbroken over the course of the last year with many games getting close to tipping the scales.

By keeping the file size small for Xbox Live Arcade games, gamers can put one or more games on a memory unit and easily bring those games to a friend’s house to share and play,” Canessa said. “Small file sizes also mean fast download times, making it possible to download and begin playing any Xbox Live Arcade game within one or two minutes.

He then explained why SOTN will be allowed to break the limit by saying “If any games do exceed 50 MB, it’s for a very specific reason that would ensure that the gameplay experience is the best it can be. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is one of the most popular games of all time, and you can [bet] that you’ll see similar high-quality games come to Xbox Live Arcade in the future.”

Canessa finished by saying the SOTN will also herald another first for XBLA as the demo will not be the same size as the full game and it would fit on memory unit if needed – this of course means if you want to get the full game after playing the demo gamers will have to opt for a second download instead of just unlocking the game like they do now.
