Call of Duty 5 primarily set in Japan

We already know that Call of Duty 5 is in the works, and should be released later this year. We also have been informed that Treyarch will be going back to WWII instead of staying put in the Modern Warfare setting Infinity Ward created for the fourth game in the series. At the time of that revelation many were upset, seeing it as a step back from the great reaction COD4 got from critics and gamers alike.

However, recent info suggests that Treyarch will not be stepping straight back into familiar territory with their upcoming game, and will not be yet again placing the player in a European or American setting. They will instead be taking the battle over to Japan, and will likely put players in the shoes of soldiers who took part in the Pacific Campaign of World War II. The exact details of where the battles will take place still remain a mystery, but the focus of the CoD5 story will be on their side of the world rather than in Western Europe this time round.

Hopefully recreating the Battle of Iwo Jima along with other memorable battles that formed part of that campaign in virtual form is a possibility. In addition, the change in setting may be just what Treyarch needs to get people interested in their vision of CoD instead of having to continually listen to people complaining IW are not involved.

Nevertheless, they will seemingly be at the helm from now on anyway, so complaints should stop either way.

  1. screw treyarch IW rules

  2. Bad Bad Idea
After the Huge leap that was made by going to modern day with COD 4 you’re now going to take a giant leap back and try a WWII game based in the pacific. Medal of Honor Series tried that and failed. I am sorry to hear this and will be even more sad when we start to get game videos that show us just how underwhelming it will be.

as sad day in deed for the COD series

  3. After the failure that is COD 3 I don’t know why Activision would let Treyarch make COD 5. I would rather wait for a couple of years for IW to make COD 5 than play the garbage that Treyarch will without doubt produce!

  4. WWII is awesome, but Treyarch is not.

Infinity Ward could make this game, and it would be as equally as awesome, as CoD4. Peopel think it was the chnage of setting that made it good, but it isn’t.

  5. The headline’s a bit dodgy – unless it’s the air war, or something to do with espionage, the only part of the Pacific war set in Japan proper was the battle of Iwo Jima – unless we’re taking the Japanese perspective at the time!

  6. Its All about the fans reaction, and I dont see anyone excited about going back to WWII. I think Its a very bad Move. We want Modern warfare. Well Ill say this ,its opening the door for someone else now. This really doesnt make any sense at all. Let me see COD3 failed and everyone from that point asked for a war game alot more modern. COD4 came and it blew everything out. Set the new standard for shooters, so they Figure to go back to WWII. LMAO!!!! Dumb just plain Dumb.

I’ll probably buy it after CoD6 comes out and CoD5 costs $20

  8. yea, treyarch is retarded. I’m so tired of shooting a damn Thompson or old WW2 guns. Jesus christ, move on already. CoD 4 proved that people were ready to move on. Medal of Honor: Airborne was a perfect example of “a company” trying something “New and creative” with the ww2 theme and nobody gave two shits. take a hint

  9. I’ve loved every single CoD game that has came out and I absolutely loved CoD: UO which Treyarch made before the company changed names. I’m sure some people will rejoice and some will hate it. I for one am looking forward to the new CoD.

  10. This is great too bad it is not modern. CODUO in my opinion is the best COD, the only reason COD3 did so bad was it was only for console games and not PC. Don’t get me wrong, I like all COD games, just that UO plays better then all of them. So much smoother game play.

  11. “Medal of Honor: Airborne was a perfect example of “a company” trying something “New and creative” with the ww2 theme”

Ohoho, no it wasn’t. There was nothing new or creative about that piece of shit game…

  12. Going back to WW2 is a massive mistake, gammers want modern day situations with modern weapons.

  13. I think what a few of you may not be remembering is that COD4 came out last year, I don’t think they knew it would be a big success when they started this one. By the time they knew I’m thinking it was to late to turn back, I mean they come out every year

no, don’t go back into ww2 because everybody will not by call of duty games anymore, just move on and make it like call of duty 4.

CoD5 is going to blow like Hiroshima/Nagasaki. I’ll bet they plop it into the toilet, I mean stores, and everyone will forget about it. It won’t be the bomb, it will be just a plain bomb from a b*tthole. Good public reaction? Naaa. I poop in the face of Treyarch.

  16. although u say that call of duty 5 will take part in japan in ww2 i think u shuld look at this i am not sure it is cal of duty but it says cod5 the future http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dwwWA8K_DKs ps reply i am baffeled and i cant wait untill the next game actually comes out reply to my email that i entered

  17. Instead of making a game about WWII, I think they should make one about the Korean War, or about the Viet Nam war. I know that there were alot of Viet Nam games out there for computers, but not for xbox360. Being a Viet Nam vet; I would really like to see IW make a Viet Nam war game for the xbox360, and if good enough then branch it out to PS3. Just my two cents. Peace; LAYMINISTER

  18. Another note on my previous post; If they (IW), keep going with modern warfare, how soon before they catch up to H3? So to do some reminescence type games of previous wars, of course by IW, would be great. How about the Revoulionary War, Civil War, Spanish American War? I think that these types would help keep the COD series going.

what a pile of shit. You cant just fucking jump forward 60 years and then back again. A good jump back would be the war in korea or even vietnam. Medal of Honour:Airbourne was wank and im sorry to say that it looks like COD 5 will be too.

  20. it didnt jump 60 years o_o

    but yeah
    erm

    really bad idea
pacific war would be very bad game

they should just leave call of duty to IW tbh anyone els will just cock it up

  21. WWII has been done again and again. We’re all tired of the same guns, the same missions, and the same outcome. Why do you have to base your game on an actual war? Are they that uncreative?
Oh well, that’s just 60 bucks I’ll have to spend on another game.

  22. You guys have no respect who died in the REAL Pacific War. You fools are like “Oh, I want Modern”. Dudes, you have CoD4, BF2 and the real thing going on in Iraq/Afghanistan.

I would love to have Australian Army troops in a Call of Duty game in the Pacific.

  23. Why not just leave it how it is, cod4 is the best game out there and they’re going to throw it all away for another wwII game that sucks. Ruined a few months of excitement for me by finding this out!!!!!!!!!

  24. how does people not wanting to play another ww2 call of duty mean that they have no respect for real world wars? I would like to see a followup to call of duty 4 modern warfare that is in modern times.

  25. i dont think going back 2 WW2 is a great idea, as cod4 was such a huge success and a great game
Maybe after this game moving on 2 vietnam or afghanistan would be a good idea, or even modern again

In ggmania website, it shows that japanese soldier attacking american with Katana blade. well, that’s new. COD6 might be intended to draw more consumer from asia pasific, but who is the main characters here? are we playing as american soldiers again, or we are playing as japanese, chinese, indonesian (my country) character. It was said that setting of the battlefield will be different. Hopefully we will see some interesting mission such as independence of indonesia, raid of singapore, midway war, and of course the atomic bomb in hiroshima and nagasaki.

Personally I prefer modern war, dun have to be historical, they can make up WW3 story, or some Tom Clansy story will be good as well. The point is, I’m disappointed that I’m sick and tired with tommy gun, then I can use mod-ak47, and now I have to use katana blade to fight. The first thing I will do before buying this game is go check the trailers from gametrailers.com or youtube or download the demo

    Let’s not be so judgemental.

Yes, it’s pretty much a waste of Treyarch time when they already have “Game of The Year” going for a second year and not to mention they’re making this just under 2 years after CoD4. What’s the point? wasting the companies funds would be one consequence, im sure consumer finances would nowhere be as good as CoD4.

Though, People can change right? so… Ya think Tryearch has changed?

screentshots and soon to be released material does show a high quality game but thats just VISUAL. We want like James Budiano said, maybe a made up WW3 surrounding, transfer this wasted time and effort into a game that would be certainly better than any CoD’s in the series.

It’s 50/50 with me. The trailer or whatever that seems to be doesn’t appeal to me at all, expectations rose after CoD4 came and this seems to have gotten to everyone. If you’ve played CoD4 Campaign then you have saved America from 2 nuclear warheads with an estimated death toll of around 42,000,000, not to mention teams of around 20 taking on hostile forces, again this just racks up, you get to control the gun systems of an AC-130 Gunship.

Just wait and see Ladies and Gentlemen. Treat it as if you have never heard of CoD. But my advice would be Read up and research gameplay etc. before buing or many people will be out of £40/$’s

    James.

  28. damnit why do they keep saying its going to be set in Japan

not in japan its going to be set in the pacific god damnit

  29. If COD5 is gonna be a WWII, Then hurry and finish making it and make COD6 modern

  30. Modern Warfare was great but wrong choice of giong back to the WWII

  31. Wtf i still will buy this game but doubt its gonna be any good. IW is great i hate these japanese comapnies when it comes to fps….. they should just stick to games like metal gear and leave the intense CoD games to the more proffessional people

  32. this post is ryt i played cod1 2 3 and 4 and 4 is the best bad move 3 was shit

  33. here is the deal, i have been playing the beta and it plays the same as cod 4 its just ad good. looks just as good, sounds just as good, and as you will all see soon the dogs rule.

  34. the beta is awesome for cod:waw the game engine is the same as cod 4 so the game looks as good if not better and the guns are fine get over it its not Treyarch’s fault you suck at cod the game will be fine its just like cod 4 with diffrent maps just pick up a mp 40 and pretend its a m4 it rolls ppl just as easly so stop crying over the fact its world war 2 and play it or shut up no one wants to hear a bunch of pussy bitch about how much better IW is there awesome cod 4 was amazing but cod 5 will be just as good there going to finsh the war this time and not leave you hanging it will be good

  35. That is the longest sentence I have seen in a good while.

I do have to agree that World at War almost feels like a re-skinned COD4 to me. Not that this is necessarily a bad thing.

  36. i dont know what you guys are talking about i love the beta the online gameplay is awsome! artillary(instead of airstrike) recon planes (instead of uav) attack dogs i(nstead of chopper) you can still create a class ten classes actualy more grenades and perks

  37. Just played the beta and it plays incredible

  38. Call Of Duty 5 is incredible.. Only thing i dont like is that the maps are a bit harder but there is alot more wepens too chose from.
