That’s right – for those of you who’ve got a Wii hooked up to your telly but are found lacking in terms of roof-aerial access, the lovely chaps at the BBC are now gearing up the iPlayer, their on-demand TV service, to work with the Wii’s web browser.
The service is still in beta, and suffers from some pretty dodgy frame-rates if you dare to actually zoom in so that the video fills the screen, but it’s certainly a step in the right direction. To give it a whirl, just point your Wii’s web browser at bbc.co.uk/iplayer.
Now if you don’t mind, I’m watching Dog Borstal.

Just tried it – its pretty lousy TBH. Sucky frame rate and no full screen option?!

Yeha it sorely needs a full screen option.

I went on last night and I don’t really see how they could even call it Wii compatiable. Its just a regular website that works through the Wii’s web browser. Its going to need a lot of work for it to be actually worth using.

Seeing as they’ve only recently got it working with Apple Macs and browsers other than I.E. I wouldn’t hold your breath on them making any changes to get it to work perfectly with the Wii…. the BBC decision making machine is around the same speed as an ice age! Suppose the quality is slightly better than YouTube, but I did expect more seeing as my TV license fee has paid for this!
