Battlefield Bad Company beta goes live

For those that begged, borrowed, stole, or lucked their way into the beta for Battlefield Bad Company you’ll be happy to hear the servers for the game have just gone up and you can now partake in some multiplayer gold rush action. The beta will go on for one full month, ending April 25th.

Seeing as this is a beta test, there is sure to be a few problems over the course of the month as DICE tinker with stuff behind the scene to iron out flaws in the games online code. We expect the first few days could be quite rough, but we are sure stuff will start to run somewhat smoothly the further we get into the beta.

Two maps will be playable in the beta, Ascension, which is based in a European village, and has been prominent in many recent trailers and videos for the game, and Oasis which is set in a Middle Eastern and currently remains a little more mysterious. Both maps will showcase the games destructible environments, which are without doubt highly impressive, and should be the main selling point for the game once retail release beckons. As mentioned above the only mode available to play in the beta is Gold Rush, which is new to the Battlefield series and sees one team defend crates filled with gold while the other team attempts to destroy the crates.

The beta will start with 20 locked guns, 10 can be unlocked through playing the game, while the other 10 must be bought through the Xbox Live Marketplace. We won’t be touching those 10 though, as EA need to learn that this kind of DLC needs to die. We hope many others do the same.

Oh, and if you wondering what that really cool piano music in the games main menu is, it’s a jazz number called “The Beast” and is preformed by Milt Buckner.
