Atari has announced they’ve picked up the once publisherless first person shooter The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena. The game was thrown to the wayside by Activision back in July, along with a bunch of other games, when they decided the 49498th edition of Guitar Hero was much more important. Atari will now release the game in early 2009 on PC/360/PS3.
The game is a remake of The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay, which was released all the way back in 2004 when you wore that shirt you very much regret buying. However, Atari boast the game will also have a new full-length campaign for players to experience as well – which is rather good news.
“It’s very exciting to have Assault on Dark Athena as part of Atari’s 2009 publishing line-up,” said a godlike Phil Harrison, President of Infogrames Entertainment, the parent company of Atari. “The first game in the series was a landmark in action gaming and the outstanding team at Starbreeze are creating a feature-packed follow-up which will delight fans and new players alike.”
Other dropped games by the big bad that is Activision include Ghostbusters and that 50 Cent game you really should not care about, but are still weirdly interested in. They have also recently got picked up by Atari and THQ respectively, and will see the light of day in stores.
Brutal Legend, yet another one of the games affected, does not seem to have a publisher yet, and that makes us sad. Don’t give up Tim Schafer, we still love you!
