All GameTap editorial staff sacked

Wired report that the editorial and video sections of the GameTap website will be shutting down in the middle of June, and as a result all staff involved with that part of the site will be fired in a couple of weeks time.

GameTap Vice President of content Rick Sanchez said, “While we have been very happy with the work done by our editorial and video teams, we’ve made a decision to focus the business on our biggest strength, which is our game catalog. As a result, we will be restructuring the site to focus exclusively on gameplay.”

Sanchez went onto confirm that GameTap will continue to sell games long into the future. “[We] will continue to operate all of our digital distribution models, including download to own, subscription, and ad supported gameplay,” he commented.
