WARNING: THIS PODCAST HAS SO MANY SPOILERS IT IS QUITE FRANKLY BEYOND A JOKE. If you haven't finished Mass Effect 2, you really mustn't listen to this episode, because we'll ruin the hell out of it for you.

Basically, what we've got here is a bonus podcast episode where we talk about nothing but BioWare's latest sci-fi epic. Or rather, we try and talk about what we remember of it after having finished it over a month ago. But sometimes that can result in a more honest appraisal, right? In any case, we've been saying we'll do this for weeks, so there's no backing out now. Deal with it. Oh, and there'll be bonus points for anyone who can spot the bit where Sean and Ian had a minor falling-out and we had to remove about three minutes of awkward silence from the recording.

Those of you who haven't played Mass Effect 2, calm down - we'll have another 'normal' episode out in a couple of days, where we announce the winner of the Indy Jones competition, and probably a load of other really great stuff happens.

See you then!

Yeah, we know that should be an 'é' in order to make the hilarious portmanteau a bit more obvious, but the front page doesn't like unusual characters. Feel free to complain, though - we will definitely care.

This week, we've all been playing an awful lot of Battlefield: Bad Company 2. Because it's amazing. So amazing, in fact, that we waste about 25 minutes talking about it. So, y'know. Deal with that.

There's a fun middle bit where Ian talks about the Bayonetta players' guide, which leads on to a discussion about players' guides in general, systems that videogames hide from the player, and why power-levelling is rubbish. After that, we do our best to answer our listeners' questions - thanks for those, as always - and are reminded that we haven't actually given an opinion on BioShock 2 yet, which also gave us an excuse to use the brilliant artwork of regular listener Chris Lees (http://twitter.com/Leeso999).

If you want to enter last week's competition, there's still time, and details can be found in last week's post (http://darkzero.co.uk/game-podcasts/podcast-46-ians-obsession/). We'll be picking the winner at about 9pm tomorrow (15th of March), so HURRY UP.

And that's about it for this week. Thanks for listening, and we'll see you all next week. Or thereabouts.

Cheerio!

Whoah! Another podcast! It's almost like we're doing them on a regular basis again, or something.

It's competition time again at DZ Towers, as we're now desperately trying to shift a copy of Lego Indiana Jones 2 for the Xbox 360. The competition details are at the start of the podcast, so you've not got the excuse of getting bored 20 minutes in and missing it. Send your entries to the usual address - podcast [at] darkzero.co.uk - before the 15th of March, and the best one wins the game. And what do we want you to send us? Well, you'll have to bloody listen to find out, YEAH?

This week, Ian explains why he's playing Skate 2 more than ever, with the sequel just a few months away. Sean's been playing a load of iPhone rubbish, and tells us why he doesn't really like Plants Vs Zombies. Andi is entirely absent for the first half of the episode, but those who appreciate his particular brand of tedium will be pleased to hear that he's in the second bit, where we discuss Sean's assassination of an entire development studio, and why you all need to stop giving Michael Pachter a hard time. And it's not just because he was kind enough to come on the podcast last year.

There's also some stuff about Ubisoft's draconian DRM, the X10 event, and the utterly ridiculous videogame BAFTA nominations. Plus, we answer a load of your questions, and some of them were particularly good this week.

So, hurry up and listen to us talk, because we are bloody fascinating. And we'll see you next week. Hopefully.

Oh God. We're sorry it's been so long. This episode was actually recorded about three weeks ago, but a number of things that happened that prevented Sean from completing the edit. Those things include, but aren't limited to, the release of Mass Effect 2, and a near-death brush with the almighty NOROVIRUS. But all is well once again - we've all finished Mass Effect 2 (twice, in some cases), and Sean's poo is now totally solid again. Except when he drinks too much Fentimans Cola, but that's his own fault.

Anyway, this episode is a listener questions special, so brace yourselves for that. Next week we'll be mercilessly caressing Mass Effect 2's every curve, announcing the winner of the Wolverine competition (remember that?), and launching the next one. As always, fire your questions at the @DarkZeroUK Twitter account, or send them to podcast [at] darkzero.co.uk. Those of you waiting to have your questions answered, or your competition prizes posted - we haven't forgotten. Promise.

Cheery-byes!

WE HAVE A WINNER. Congrats to Thomas Nichols for sending in the above MS Paint image, and thus bagging himself a copy of Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 on the Xbox 360. The rest of you: wipe away those tears, because this week we're giving away X-Men Origins: Wolverine, again for the 360. COMPETITION TIME kicks off at 29:30, so skip forward to that if you can't bear to put up with our terrible voices for more than a few minutes. All entries to be sent to podcast [at] darkzero.co.uk, same as last time. And you don't even need to bother drawing us a stupid picture this week!

Anyway, in the first half there's even more chat about Bayonetta and Demon's Souls, which could be a good or bad thing depending on how you feel about Bayonetta and Demon's Souls. Sean's been replaying Mass Effect in preparation for the sequel's imminent release, and we've all been playing the incredible Miner Dig Deep, which is basically the best game ever made.

We answer more listener questions in the second half, which we then tie into some stuff about pre-order bonuses, special editions, and stuff. It's a bit messy, but good.

If you're reading this before 10pm on the day it went up (25th of January), then you've still got time to send listener questions in via Twitter (http://twitter.com/darkzerouk) or the usual e-mail address. And make sure you get your competition entries in by the 1st of February, or we'll actually kill you.

See you next week!

You might not, but hey - that's what transport bars are for! Andi's also played Darksiders, and Ian's played the incredible Pixel Boarder, which is much better than any indie title on the 360 has any right to be. Especially when it only costs 240MSP.

The second half starts at 39:30, and features more beautiful listener questions and deeply insightful news commentary. And some stuff about Ron Jeremy. Sorry.

Join us next week when we announce the winner of the previous competition, and launch the next one. Remember to keep hammering us with questions, either at the @DarkZeroUK (http://twitter.com/DarkZeroUK) Twitter account, or at the usual e-mail address - podcast [at] darkzero.co.uk.

Happy new year, fellow cretins! We're kicking off 2010 in the traditional style - by doing a run-down of our annual Videogames of the Year (http://darkzero.co.uk/game-articles/videogames-of-the-year-2009/) article, for those of you who are too lazy to just read the bloody thing. After the recording we sort of realised that, what with us doing regular podcasts these days, the tradition is now somewhat redundant (as in, you've heard us all talking about most of the games already), but for those of you who are new to the show it'll be a nice introduction to the sort of rubbish we tend to come out with. Or if you're one of the regulars who like to touch themselves in awful places whilst listening to our voices, you've now got over two hours of new material to work with.

As for everyone else, calm DOWN - in the second part (around 44 minutes in), we do the listener questions segment, followed our very first GENUINE COMPETITION. No, we're not giving away The Ashes 2009, or Sean's copy of You're In The Movies without the camera. Sorry. But instead, we've got a 100% fresh, sealed copy of Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 for the Xbox 360 to give away. Not only that, but we're gonna give away a game every fortnight for as long as we've still got stuff to give away. So, about two months, give or take.

What's the catch, you ask? Well, there are a couple, the first one being the fact that you have to listen to the podcast to find out what we want you to do in order to win the game. It's easy though, promise. You don't even need to listen to the whole thing - the competition bit is at one hour and five minutes in, so just skip to that if you're impatient or greedy.

All entries to be sent to podcast [at] darkzero.co.uk, deadline is the 18th of January.

Remember to keep the questions, no matter how stupid, coming to the above e-mail address, or to our Twitter account (https://twitter.com/DarkZeroUK), and thanks VERY VERY MUCH for listening. We love you all, albeit some of you more than others.

We three blokes, from DarkZero are,
One with a beard, you'll find him in bars,
One who's so white, you can see him at ni-ight,
The other likes Batman far, too...
Much, but hey, it's really grand,
Has anybody seen Seth Bland?
We talked too much about Far Cry 2,
And now he's gone, and we're all screwed.

Merry Christmas, all! It's Christmas day, and while we realise you should really have better things to do, we have literally killed ourselves to make sure this podcast goes up on the morning of the 25th.

THINGS IN THE PODCAST:

Sean's been playing Muramasa: The Demon Blade, which you might have heard being referred to as "the good Wii game that isn't MadWorld". Andi's been playing The Saboteur because it's BLOODY GOOD, and Ian's been slashing the hell out of everything on the remastered God of War 1+ 2 for the PS3.

There's a quaint little chat about our fondest Christmas gaming memories, and we once again grit our teeth and answer a bunch of listener questions (as always, thanks for sending them in). There's another novelty intro and a sort-of novelty bit in the break, and we're back to telling rubbish jokes and swearing a lot because Pachter's not here to make us feel faintly ashamed.

We genuinely hope you all have an entirely decent Christmas - or, if you don't, then we hope our warblings will go some way towards making it a bit less dull/painful/horrific.

Cheerio!

Yes, this week we're joined by games industry analyst Michael Pachter. As some of you may recall, we said some rather harsh things about the guy a few months back, and he caught us red-handed. Several months (and grovelling apologies) later, we managed to coax him into making an appearance on the podcast. Those of you expecting the usual idiotic humour might be a little disappointed, as having a special guest means we're all on our best behaviour. But those of you who occasionally see sneery news stories about Pachter's out-of-context quotes might stand to learn a thing or two about what the man really does for a living.

We follow the usual structure - one half where we discuss the games we've been playing this week, and a second half where we put listener questions to Michael (thanks again for those, incidentally) and discuss a few recent developments that took our interest - particularly the recent Spike Videogame Awards, and John Riccitiello's recent comment that he thinks paid-for DLC is an effective way of turning pirates into paying customers.

Catch us next week for the ULTRA DARKZERO CHRISTMAS SPECIAL PODCAST. Which may or may not be that special. We'll see. It'll be up on Christmas morning, anyway. So feel free to play it while you're sat eating Christmas dinner with your family. They'll love you for that.

Cheers!

As you can see, we've got our grown-up hats on this week. Unfortunately, Skype-related issues in the first half of the podcast result in some rather one-sided discussions - as it turns out, it's difficult to give feedback or criticism on what someone is saying when you can't actually hear what they're saying most of the time. Basically, Ian talks about Assassin's Creed 2 for about ten minutes, then Sean talks about The Saboteur for another ten minutes, then Andi talks about iPhone games for ten minutes, then Sean and Andi talk about the Battlefield: Bad Company 2 beta.

The second half, however, features the usual idiocy you've come to expect, helped by the fact that we answer a bunch of listener-questions (thanks very much for sending those in, by the way) with mostly utterly ridiculous answers. We then discuss EA CEO John Riccitiello's recent comments about not churning out endless rubbish every year, and Ian points out some rather underhand tactics that Ubisoft have employed to get you to buy their games. It's almost enough to make you feel bad about purchasing Far Cry 2. ALMOST.

As I write this, we're preparing to record the next podcast with Michael Pachter as a special guest. So, make sure you listen next week, because lord knows he'll be more interesting than we could ever be.

If you're reading this, there's a 99.999999% chance you've played, and finished, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. You already know it's great, and there's that controversial bit in it, and a bunch of other stuff. Thus, this podcast is utterly rife with spoilers - including a couple for the end of Far Cry 2, for it is the yardstick by which all games must be measured, and inevitably judged to be vastly inferior.

The first half focuses on the single-player game, while the second (spoiler-free) half deals with the multiplayer. I've got a horrible feeling we totally neglected to mention the excellent Spec Ops mode, so expect some words about that next week.

Even if you don't have time for the whole episode this week, at least check out the special intro. We're a bit too proud of it.

Thanks for listening, as always, and we will see YOU next week.

Late, isn't it? BLAME SETH.

Certain comments made during the episode date the recording considerably - in fact, it was recorded on the night that Modern Warfare 2 came out. Except none of us had actually played it at that point, so instead you've just got a load of waffle over the pricing issues. Again. But we promise it's different this time. But before that, there's all this rubbish:

- Seth doesn't like Halo: ODST, Sean and Ian declare that he must have some kind of mental disorder that renders him immune to the charms of exploding bridges.
- Ian has finished The Ballad of Gay Tony, and hilarious jokes about gays ensue.
- Everyone goes a bit mad talking about iPhone games. Sorry.

Then there's some stuff about Uriel Septim's hair, guns that shoot swords, and God knows what else. Should be entertaining, though.

As always, thanks for your continued support and feedback. Join us next time for a Modern Warfare 2 special, where you can hear our surprisingly tasteful response to the infamous airport level, and a bunch of other stuff. It's GOOD.

Ta-ra!

After our usual chat about what we've been playing (Borderlands, Dragon Age, Tekken 6, and some other rubbish), we throw in a recording of Sean attempting to play Dead Space with (hopefully) entertaining results. Sadly he never actually screamed at any point, but there is a lot of fear-swearing.

In the final section we share our thoughts about the recent Eurogamer Expo, complete with interviews and recordings made live at the event. We almost sound a bit professional at a couple of points. It's a bit weird.

Join us next week, when we really should have some thoughts on Modern Warfare 2, but none of us will because we haven't had chance to buy it yet, and Sean's 360 has red-ringed. Oh, and the artwork will make sense when you listen to the podcast. Maybe.

Love you! x

The ground shakes. The sky begins to cloud over. Somewhere in the distance, a baby cries out for its mother.

This can only mean one thing - Sean has opened FileZilla, and he's uploading episode 35 of the DarkZero podcast.

Everything's completely back to normal this week - the roster has returned to the traditional Sean/Andi/Ian/Seth arrangement and, 35 episodes in, we still don't have a clue what we're doing. This week, Ian and Andi talk for ages about how bloody good Uncharted 2 is. Sean, on the other hand, is poor, and could only afford some rubbish iPhone game and Axel & Pixel on Xbox Live Arcade. Seth has spent his sabbatical playing on his new PS3, and is yet to be overhwhelmed with joy about his recent purchase, but we've all vowed to try Killzone 2's multiplayer soon in order to fathom why it's supposedly so great.

We've got a special interlude this week, as Andi talks us through the incredible experience of playing Seduce A SuicideGirl on the iPhone. This is a real game, and we have not made it up. (http://appshopper.com/entertainment/seduce-a-suicidegirl) So, check that out to see if he gets lucky or not. [SPOILER: He gets kicked to the curb and hates the game.]

In the second half, we completely fail to find any real news to talk about, but there's some stuff about Mr Pachter's recent predictions that have been dragged kicking and screaming around the blog circuit, and we later move on to a discussion about how the role of videogame demos seems to have shifted in recent years, with publishers seeming more keen to restrict access to what should be, essentially, advertising for their games. Are we really so desperate for early access to our beloved games that the publishers are now the ones wearing the trousers, when it should be them desperately trying to convince us that we should buy their stuff?

Join us next week for a Hallowe'en special, where Sean tries to play the opening sections of Dead Space without shitting himself inside out. Unless the recording turns out to not be all that funny and we decide not to use it. We'll see.

Cheerio!

This week, we've got an extra-special treat for those of you who felt that the podcast's Sean/not-Sean ratio was a bit off, as we're joined by the entirely excellent Sean Bamberger ('Sean 2' from now on) since he was kind enough to go and see Ubisoft for us (http://darkzero.co.uk/game-articles/ubisofts-winter-2009-line-up/) last week. We're also joined by Andi, who is really drunk this week. He won't be doing that again.

The 'what have you been playing?' section features words about Scribblenauts, the excellent Bayonetta demo, Operation Flashpoint 2, and a lengthy chat about Metal Gear Solid 4. We've mostly steered clear of spoilers, but it will bore you to tears if you've not played the game. You've been WARNED.

The second half mainly consists of Sean 2 talking about his experiences with Ubisoft's Winter line-up, so if you're too bloody lazy to read his article, wave your ears over the podcast instead. We promise you'll be vaguely entertained.

No song from Pete this week, but there should be one in episode 35, along with Seth's entirely glorious return. So we'll see you then, or else we're coming for your family.

Bye! x

BANG. We're back. Sorry. Pretty much business as usual this week, apart from Seth being absent once again. Lesson learned: full-time careers are for suckers.

This week we talk a lot about Halo: ODST, Sean talks about some rubbish indie games and the fact that he finally has a PS3 (spoiler: it is, overall, mildly disappointing), and Ian tries to coin the term 'damp clap'.

In the interlude, Pete sings a frankly terrifying song about Final Fantasy VII, so prepare yourselves for that.

Then, in an incredible twist, we actually answer a reader question. Monkey Rimmer's question about PSN gets answered in typical DZ style - by which we mean we sort of start answering it and then meander into other stuff. It should still be interesting, though.

In other exciting news, Andi has a new microphone, and we finally have an official podcast e-mail address. You can now send all podcast-related enquiries to podcast [at] darkzero.co.uk - so do that. Now. And we'll see you all next week, right? Good.

Those of you who subscribe on iTunes have probably noticed that our podcasts carry the little 'EXPLICIT' tag. And we feel it's our duty to warn you that we really earned it this week. Not even because of our usual abrasive humour, but because we discuss Edmund, an indie game about sexual assault. And Vietnam. We kept it sensible for the most part, but obviously the 'r' word crops up a fair few times. You've been warned.

Andi has microphone troubles, again, but he disappears after about five minutes, and we've finally bought him a new headset. So as of next week, you'll actually be able to hear him say loads of REALLY INTERESTING THINGS about Street Fighter IV. We hope you're looking forward to that, because we're bloody not.

Aside from the chat about Edmund, you can expect the usual light-hearted rubbish about videogames, some stuff about Buddhism, and the occasional wonky bit of audio because Sean was lazy this week and just recorded the Skype audio feed instead of putting together everybody's local recordings like he's supposed to. And yet, somehow, the podcast is still a week late. Brilliant.

In other news, fans of our sexy voices should point their eyes and ears at GamerDork (http://gamerdork.net/), as Andi and Sean will be appearing on episode 19 of their excellent podcast, which should be up over the next few days. That said, if you really feel the need to listen to us on two different podcasts, you should probably start asking yourself some serious questions.

Alert viewers will notice that that we sort of sneakily missed a week out. Sorry about that. But we'll definitely be back next week, so we'll see you then.

Kisses!

Look, we're really sorry about the intro, alright? We thought it'd be funny. And it might be. But we doubt it.

The Beatles: Rock Band and Guitar Hero 5 are both out, so it seemed rude not to talk about them both at length. Well, not too much length because we're sticking with the five-minute-per-game rule (do let us know how you feel about that, by the way), although Sean was so upset by his experiences playing WET that he went over time as he sobbed uncontrollably. Seth's been having fun with Home, but it has very little to do with it actually being any good.

If you're a regular listener, then make sure you catch the second half - we do a massive GRATITUDE FEST where we've tried to name all our listeners who've been in touch with us in some way or another. If you think we missed you out, feel free to hurl abuse at us and you'll get a mention next week.

After that we celebrate the Dreamcast's recent ten-year anniversary by ranting endlessly about our favourite games on the ill-fated machine. Then there's some stuff about us hating the new Assassins' Creed 2 trailer, and a load of other rubbish we can't even remember. It's probably all funny or interesting, though. Probably.

Enjoy the show, and we'll see you next week. RIGHT?

Seth's away this week, so if all you ladies out there want to give this episode a miss, that's perfectly understandable. I think I've probably made that joke in the podcast blurb before, but hey!

No, seriously though, he's married. Back off.

This week we introduce a new rule where, in the first half of the podcast, we're not allowed to talk about a single game for more than five minutes. We think it works, but your feedback is as welcome as ever. We talk a fair bit about Halo 3 and Jedi Knight, proving once and for all that we've got our fingers well and truly on the industry's pulse. Ian's been playing more Arkham Asylum, Andi's been on a PSP binge, and Sean's finished the rubbish Mass Effect DLC that came out the other week. Brilliant!

In the second half we talk about the interesting stuff that came out of this year's PAX, and how the creator of Mobile Suit: Gundam almost has a point but is a bit ignorant. We're also pretty hyped for The Ballad of Gay Tony, so there's a load of GTA IV chat which sort of meanders into a discussion about believable environments in videogames.

See you next week!

Featuring some exhilarating live audio direct from the Urbis exhibition centre in Manchester, Ian and Sean talk about the highlights of Videogame Nation, a celebration of UK-based videogames. There's also some stuff about Pokemon, but it's not very interesting.

The Videogame Nation exhibition runs until September 19th, more details of opening times and guest lectures can be found here (http://www.urbis.org.uk/page.asp?id=3296 ).

The next podcast will see everything return to normal, promise.
