EA’s Online Pass Program Still ‘Dead’
EA confirmed on Wednesday that it will still be discontinuing its Online Pass program, even though both the Xbox One and PS4 have announced support of used games. In May, EA had first revealed that the program would be killed, though that was assumed to be a response to anti-used gaming rumours, and with the recent news that used games will continue to be accepted, many envisioned a revitilization of the program.
“[There is] no change to our decision to discontinue Online Pass,” said John Reseburg, EA senior director of corporate communications. “It is dead.”
EA’s Online Pass program was initially created to hamper the used game system. Only new copies of EA games contained the Online Pass code, which would then allow gamers to play online, thereby transferring thousands of used purchases to new purchases.
