DieselStörmers, from Black Forest Games, blasts onto Kickstarter

After the challenging fun of Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams – Rise of the Owlverlord, I stated that it’s going to be interesting to see what Black Forest Games does next, because  the studio has a knack for creating enjoyable, challenging platforming games. Well, the German indie studio has just revealed its next game through a Kickstarter campaign; a run and gun title that goes by the name of DieselStörmers.

A modular and procedural approach to content allows meaningful level combinations with infinite replayability. Templates and content slots are used to layer relevant content chunks within chunks, generating incredible diversity and supporting an ever-growing cast of enemies and hazards. Even the enemies themselves are modular as well

Reading through the Kickstarter, a neat feature of the game is the promise of infinite replayability, thanks to the modular and procedural approach to creating the game’s levels. If the team can manage to capture the addictiveness of 16bit run and gun games, such as Gunstar Heroes, then the added bonus of modular generated levels is icing on the cake.

DieselStörmers has a singleplayer mode or can be played with up to four teammates in co-op to enable additional team strategies like energy arcs between players, team upgrades, complementing shot patterns and the parallel use of environmental objects.

While the pure run’n’gun part of the game is already cooperation based, DieselStormers offers a special tool of tactical cooperation: the arc connector – a mythical entity that connects the squad members with each other and only releases its powers when they work together as a unit. Is there an incoming heavy mech that is almost bulletproof? Well, that’s no problem for a well-coordinated squad that knows how to use the arc connector for electro-zapping! Or do you want to summon a pure goop creature instead that turns against your enemies? That’s also possible. All you need to do is to collaborate!

It’s been a hard time for Black Forest Games, since they have been working on DieselStörmers for close to a year  by dedicating their free time, enthusiasm and money to the title in-between hired projects. A Kickstarter boost will allow them for a dedicated team to work on DieselStörmers with no danger of the game getting cancelled for lack of funds.

If you’re interested in seeing more about DieselStörmers, then you can find the Kickstarter page here. At the time of posting, the Kickstarter currently sits at $12,784 out of the $50,000 needed to have a successful backing.
