Charlie Brooker helming “How Video Games Changed The World” on Channel 4

Writer, comic, and actual person Charlie Brooker is to host a new TV show about video games – which has a good chance at not being bad like those other ones that made you mute your TV. It is all encompassingly called “How Video Games Changed The World,” and will air sometime near the end of November on Channel 4.

There is also a show called “Dogs That Changed The World,” but the two are likely unconnected.

The show is a one-off Endemol produced documentary, with a running time of two hours – which is long enough for you to become distracted and play an actual game.

Nolan Bushnell and Will Wright will be involved, as well as writer Rhianna Pratchett. Tolerable celebrity gamers Jonathan Ross and Dara O’Briain will act as talking heads too. Sadly, Vanessa Feltz was not paid an appearance fee, and decided not to appear.

A blurb by Channel 4 states:

“We will be reminiscing back to the launch of Pac-Man and the birth of the first electronic icon for 80’s popular culture. Moving through to the booming nineties we will be looking at video games’ first credible female character, digital cover girl and tawdry teenage boy fantasy – Tomb Raider’s Lara Croft.

“Now in the 21st century we take a critical look at how Minecraft and its fan base of armchair architects are reshaping the world one brick at a time, whilst shoot-fest franchises like Call of Duty and Grand Theft Auto are easily outselling other forms of entertainment on a day-to-day basis.”

A guy called Matt Lees has also wrote some core content for the show, he used to write for the Simpsons I think.
