The Cogs Begin to Turn…

Around 6 months or so ago when Sony announced they would be cutting out backward compatibility I felt it necessary to question Sony’s motives. Joystiq too noted that this might be a possibility, and with today’s announcement from their marketing department that they ‘might have underestimated demand’ for the 80gb systems it seems pretty clear the way things are going…

So I’m calling it again guys- within the next few months we’ll seeing a new PS3 SKU, one which will boast a brand new feature : Backwards compatability!

And do you know what? For all the punters who don’t pay attention to this stuff, for many it’ll probably be a factor that’ll swing the deal.

Sony’s marketing team eh? Gotta love em!

  1. When they announced they were only going to be selling 40GB versions that’s when I thought it best to jump in and get the superior version, before the chance was lost forever. I have to wonder whether this was a deliberate attempt by Sony to stir up some panic buying, knowing they would consider releasing another version down the line which would go down well with the crowd. Deliberate or not, their strategy has seen the PS3’s prospects improve.
