I’m not really a fan of sims. I’m too impatient. Usually I’ll switch a game off and never play it again if it dares to have an unskippable intro sequence. But this excellent little piece of writing that went up on Rock, Paper, Shotgun earlier today is well worth a look. It follows the exploits of the author, Tim Stone, as he attempts to fly across the Atlantic Ocean in Microsoft Flight Simulator, using only a Vickers Vimy – an old bi-plane from 1919. The article was originally planned to be published in a book, curated by Kieron Gillen and Jim Rossignol, that was intended to feature “a collection of the best games writing on the planet.”, as RPS puts it. Then the publisher went mental and the whole thing went under. Luckily, articles such as this one have made it onto the internet anyway.

Why should you read it? Well, because despite the intensely dull subject matter, it’s a really interesting read, and makes a couple of nice points about how games can be boring in a good way. Sometimes.

Ch-ch-check it out.
